Senator Weinberg Moderates 8th Grade Mock Presidential Debate at The Elisabeth Morrow School, 11/1

By:

After weeks of "Race to the White House" activities at The Elisabeth Morrow School (EMS), election fever has reached a level high. As Election Day approaches, the 8th grade students are preparing for their mock presidential debate, which will be moderated by Senator Loretta Weinberg today, November 1, 2012, 11:00AM at The Elisabeth Morrow School.

The 8th graders at EMS have taken the lead in organizing and implementing an all school election. Having registered all EMS citizens and spearheaded a "get out the vote" drive, the 8th graders are now focused on the candidates and their stands on the issues. The 8th grade Democratics and Republicans nominated their "candidates," Obama/Biden ticket (Christian Maloney of Hackensack and Pantelis Paliouras of Closter) and Romney/Ryan Ticket (Liel Sterling of Tenafly and Annika Kim of Englewood Cliffs), who are getting ready to go head to head in the debate. Armed with research on matters of domestic and foreign policy, which was put together by their own "policy advisors," the EMS candidates will spar before a crowd of students in grades 4-8, as well as faculty, staff, and administrators.

Senator Weinberg will moderate the 45 minute debate, which will consist of three, 15 minute segments, and will then field questions from the audience in the final segment. Senator Weinberg is currently the New Jersey Senate Majority Leader. She has been involved with the students at The Elisabeth Morrow School numerous times over the years, as she is committed to involving young people in the election process. The entire EMS community is excited about the senator's role in their mock debate.
