THE JOST PROJECT Returns to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, 5/9

The J?st Project looks forward to returning to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the location where they launched their recording, "Can't Find My Way Home" (Dot Time Records). As part of the Art After 5 series, the Philly-based band will perform on Friday, May 9 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The band is made up of internationally renowned vibraphonist Tony Miceli, vocalist/harmonicist Paul Jost, bassist Kevin MacConnell and drummer Charlie Patierno. This event is free with museum admission, $20; seniors $18; youth, 13 to 18, and students with valid ID $14; children 12 and under free. Ten artists have been nominated and thousands of subscribers will soon be casting their vote for this year's winner of the prestigious “Maria Callas Debut Artist of the Year” Award. The Dallas Opera bestows this award annually to the performer who makes the most unforgettable impression onstage in their company debut. The winner will be announced at the annual Dallas Opera Board and Trustee Appreciation Dinner on Thursday, May 22, 2014 in the Crescent Ballroom of the Rosewood Crescent Hotel, 400 Crescent Court in Uptown Dallas. Lyric Opera of Chicago announced its 2014-2015 season today, which is set to include eight operas, a world premiere new opera, a one night only piano concert with internationally acclaimed pianist Lang Lang, and special family performances. Lyric's 2014-15 subscription season will offer 68 performances of eight different operas Saturday, September 27, 2014 through Sunday, March 15 , 2015. Lyric will also present 17 performances of a new production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Carousel in April 2015, continuing the company's American Musical Theater Initiative. (more...)

On Monday, November 11, the Metropolitan Opera Guild's 79th Annual Luncheon presents "Welcome Home, Jimmy!" to salute music directorJames Levine on his triumphant return to the Met podium. A perennial highlight of the opera season, the luncheon will bring together a host of artists who have collaborated with the preeminent conductor over the course of his long and celebrated Met tenure, as well as opera fans and an array of New York's society, business, and civic leaders. "Welcome Home, Jimmy!" will feature musical tributes by Dolora Zajick, "a mezzo in a class by herself" (New York Times); Thomas Hampson, "America's foremost baritone" (International Herald Tribune); and Grammy Award-winning bass-baritone Eric Owens, all accompanied by the Met's Director of Music Administration, Craig Rutenberg. The 2013-2014 season of Washington National Opera (WNO) has just been announced by Artistic Director Francesca Zambello. The season includes Tristan and Isolde, a new production of The Force of Destiny, the East Coast premiere of Moby-Dick, The Elixir of Love, and a new production of The Magic Flute. WNO will also present the world premiere of The Lion, The Unicorn, and Me, a holiday-themed family opera commissioned by WNO and written by acclaimed American composer Jeanine Tesori. Tchaikovsky Spectacular at the Hollywood Bowl Features Top-Ranked Drum Corps in Evening of Music and Fireworks, 8/16-8/17

The Los Angeles Philharmonic presents the Tchaikovsky Spectacular with Fireworks, Friday and Today, August 16 and 17, at 8 pm, at the Hollywood Bowl. Robert Moody conducts the orchestra in the all-Tchaikovsky program which includes Selections from Swan Lake Suite, Op. 20, Capriccio Italien, Festival Coronation March and a Ukrainian Folk Song Suite (drawn from the Symphony No. 2). The annual Bowl tradition offers a new twist this season - the brass, drum corps and color guard of three of California's top-ranked drum and bugle corps, Pacific Crest, Santa ClaraVanguard, and the Vanguard Cadets, recent winners of the Drum Corp International Open Class World Championship Finals, performing in a Drumline-style collaboration. The program culminates with the thrilling 1812 Overture accompanied by cannons and a spectacular fireworks display. (more...)
