Review: Town Hall's MEMPHIS Hits You Right in the Soul

What did our critic think of MEMPHIS at Town Hall? Despite the formulaic plot, it's one of those refreshing musicals that really isn't based on any prior works. With music and lyrics by David Bryan of Bon Jovi and and book by Joe DiPietro (recognizable for penning I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change), it's got an exciting and driving score, and the story is clever enough to keep the show moving nicely.

Players Guild of Leonia to Present THE TOXIC AVENGER in April

Players Guild of Leonia, founded in 1919, will present the Lloyd Kaufman's cult film classic, THE TOXIC AVENGER, at the Civil War Drill Hall Theatre (130 Grand Avenue, Leonia). The show will be presented over three weekends, starting this Friday, April 14th, and closing on Sunday April 30th. Performances are 8:00pm Fridays and Saturdays, and 3:00pm on Sundays.
5th Wall Theatre's Artistic Director Announces Retirement

Carol Piersol, who launched 5th Wall Theatre in February 2013, said she will step down as artistic director at the end of February. A fixture on the Richmond theatre scene for more than three decades, Piersol also was co-founder of The Firehouse Theatre Project and its artistic director from 1993 to 2012.

With eyes on Broadway for the 2023-24 season, the special presentation will be directed by Broadway and Television’s Sheldon Epps and will star Tony-nominated and multi-Emmy Award winner Keith David, two-time SAG Award winner Bryan Batt, and three-time Golden Globe and Emmy nominee Marcia Cross.
