Villanova Theatre presents a staged reading of The Behavior of Light, written and directed by Broadway playwright and Hollywood screenwriter, Douglas Carter Beane. Perhaps best known for his screenplay To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar as well as his award-winning work on musicals Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, Sister Act, Xanadu and Lysistrata Jones, Beane is playwright-in-residence at Villanova University this spring. The acclaimed writer has been working alongside undergraduate and graduate students on a new play development process culminating in a public reading April 27-29, 2018. The Behavior of Light is sure to capture the hearts and imaginations of audiences far and wide.

BWW Preview: Sister Act now playing at Albuquerque Little Theatre

Kentwood Players presents the musical SISTER ACT, Book by Bill and Cheri Steinkellner, with additional book material by Douglas Carter Beane. Music by Allen Menken, Lyrics by Glenn Slater. Performance dates are March 16 - April 21, 2018 on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00pm and Sundays at 2:00pm. Performances take place at the Westchester Playhouse, located at 8301 Hindry Avenue in Westchester, CA 90045. There will be a complimentary pre-show champagne and dessert reception between 7:00-7:30pm for season subscribers and their guests attending the Saturday, March 17 performance.

Enrollment is now open for spring acting classes at Rubicon Theatre Company for adults and children ages 5 and older. Classes will be taught by Rubicon Associate Artistic Director Brian McDonald, an award-winning professional actor and director and graduate of Boston Conservatory, whose credits include national tours and work with prestigious regional theatre companies including Denver Center Theatre for the Performing Arts, McCoy-Rigby at La Mirada, Musical Theatre Guild at Thousand Oaks Performing Arts Center, and Rubicon.

Broadway, TV and film veterans Peter Van Norden (RTC's Taking Sides, Copenhagen) and Emmy Award-winner Joe Spano ( NCIS, RTC's Bucky) reprise their roles as Scrooge and Marley, respectively, in this innovative telling of Dickens' timeless tale of transformation and redemption. Adapted by Producing Artistic Director Karyl Lynn Burns and directed by Brian McDonald, the 27-member cast features many of the same actors from the original production that earned a Critic's Pick in the Los Angeles Times and rave reviews from Ventura County Star, CASA Magazine, VIDA Magazine and the Ventura Breeze. This imaginative version of Dickens' novella offers a revealing portrait of the yearning, lost child inside the cold-hearted miserly man. Actors perform in the storytelling style of the Royal Shakespeare Company's production of Nicholas Nickleby, playing characters, animals even dressing gowns and doors! Another video from the Stages Musical Theatre Festival was just released this week. New Musicals Inc. aired 51 hours of live streamcast footage of musical theatre readings, concerts, creative sessions, as well as interviews with writers and producers, all part of the most recent Stages Musical Theatre Festival. The Festival ran for fifteen years in Chicago before New Musicals Inc. brought it to the West Coast about a decade ago.

Berkeley Playhouse opens their tenth season of professional theater for family audiences with the East Bay premiere of Alan Menken's heavenly musical comedy, Sister Act. Based on the hit 1992 film, audiences will be praising the toe-tapping, gospel infused score from Tony and eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors, The Little Mermaid). When downtown disco diva Dolores Van Cartier witnesses a crime, she's placed into protective custody in the one place she's sure not to be found - a convent! Forced to trade in her nighttime habit of nightclubbing and disco dancing for a nun's habit, Dolores finds newfound self-worth, confidence, and a community she never expected to be a part of, as she leads her fellow Sisters to heavenly new heights, and transforms their church into a revitalized home of celebration, song, and community spirit. Filled with powerful music, outrageous choreography, and a moving story of unlikely friendships, Sister Act will raise the roof of the historic Julia Morgan theater, which itself was originally built in 1910 as a community church.
