Performance Update Announced for The MET Chamber Ensemble's Zankell Hall Show

  Carnegie Hall today announced an updated program and artist listing for The Met Chamber Ensemble's concert on Sunday, December 13 at 5:00 p.m. in Zankel Hall led by Artistic Director and Conductor James Levine. Pierre Boulez's Derive 1 replaces the previously announced Boulez work sur Incises on the program. In addition, Poulenc's Le Bal masque has been added to the program and will be sung by baritone John Moore. Messiaen's Quatuor pour la fin du temps concludes the program as previously announced.

Pianists are often presented with a quandary - to improvise or not to improvise. For acclaimed pianists Jenny Lin and Uri Caine, the response to this dilemma is: why not both? Lin and Caine's recent recording collaboration for Steinway & Sons, The Spirio Sessions, combines standard compositions from Domenico Scarlatti, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and others with improvisations by Caine, offering a new take on the classics.  Selections from The Spirio Sessions will be performed live at Le Poisson Rouge on January 4, 2016 at 7:30pm. Daniel Gortler, Lauren Flanigan & David Adam Moore to Perform at Jewish Museum, 12/10

 The Jewish Museum will present The Word: Spoken, Sung, and Played, a concert featuring acclaimed Israeli pianist Daniel Gortler with internationally renowned vocalists Lauren Flanigan (as narrator) and David Adam Moore (baritone) in a performance of Johannes Brahms's The Fair Magelone  (Die schone Magelone) on Thursday, December 10 at 7:30pm. During the second half of the program, soprano Lauren Flanigan will sing Luciano Berio's 'A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man' from Epifanie with Daniel Gortler. This will be Ms. Flanigan's first public New York City performance since 2010 when she was diagnosed with sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSHL). To conclude, Mr. Gortler, who has delighted audiences and critics with his concerts around the world and received praise for his technical mastery and musical ingenuity, will perform Franz Schubert's Three Piano Pieces for solo piano.

League of American Orchestras Announces Commissions for Female Composers

Andreia Pinto-Correia and Xi Wang have been selected to receive orchestral commissions of $15,000 each as part of the League of American Orchestras' Women Composers Readings and Commissions program, administered with the American Composers Orchestra and EarShot and supported by the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation. Partner orchestras to premiere the works will be announced at a later date.
