He was born Devendra Obi Banhart in Houston, Texas, but spent his childhood in Caracas, Venezuela; as a teenager, his family returned to the States, relocating in Southern California, where he soon became enamored of skateboard culture. "Ballad of Keenan Milton," in fact, is an homage to the legendary skateboarder, who died tragically in 2001 in a freak accident.

Ligia Lewis WATER WILL (IN MELODY) and MINOR MATTER Announced At Performance Space New York
by A.A. Cristi - Apr 3, 2019

Performance Space New York concludes its No Series with two performances by Ligia Lewis: minor matter (May 21-22)and Water Will (in Melody) (May 28-29), the latter two installments in her BLUE RED WHITE trilogy interrogating and complicating certain types of embodiment in relationship to the frame of the theater-and particularly the black box-space. The trilogy began with Sorrow Swag in blue and continued with minor matter in red; its conclusion, the U.S. premiere performance Water Will (in Melody), is a melodrama in black and white. Through her use of color, embodiment, and dramaturgical unruliness, Lewis twists ingrained symbols of the body and the theater with playful abandon. Resisting the tyranny of transparency and representationalism, she hopes to carve out a space for opacity and the state of not knowing.

Kindness Returns With Robyn Duet CRY EVERYTHING
by Tori Hartshorn - Mar 7, 2019

Kindness, a.k.a. Adam Bainbridge, makes a highly anticipated return to their own music with “Cry Everything,” featuring a duet with longtime collaborator and friend,Robyn. Centered around thumping bass and a swirling sample of Todd Rundgren's “Pretending to Care,” “Cry Everything” is an intricate, optimistic ode to stepping into the light and loving yourself after a particularly dark period. Pulling energy from queer, vocal house music and self-empowering funk, “Cry Everything” is the feeling of exhaling after years of holding it in, of total catharsis, of forgetting everything that came before.
