HIGH FIDELITY to Launch Refuge Theatre Project's 2016 Season

For its second season, Refuge Theatre Project will continue its mission of showcasing the work of a new generation of musical theater writers. Company co-founders Ross and Morgan Glynn Egan announced today that the season will open with High Fidelity -- the musical based on Nick Hornby's 1995 novel and on Stephen Frears' 2000 feature-film adaptation that starred Chicago natives John Cusack, Joan Cusack and Lili Taylor.

On August 1, 2015 the full 2-hour documentary CROSSING THE LINE TO BROADWAY premiered worldwide, chronicling the epic journey of the 2013 Tony Award Nominated musical BRING IT ON!, featuring book by Jeff Whitty, music by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Tom Kitt, lyrics by Amanda Green and Lin-Manuel Miranda, and music arrangements by Alex Lacamoire and Tom Kitt. Having appeared on many of New York City's cabaret stages, Gregory Nalbone returns to the Metropolitan Room with The Sounds of My Heart. Directed by Lennie Watts and music direction by Kenneth Gartman, this show showcases Nalbone's baritone register and Pop-Broadway instrument and allows him to bare his soul as he sings some of his and our favorite tunes.

Truth be told, one of my favorite movies is Bring It On, the story of competitive cheerleading starring Kirsten Dunst, Eliza Dushku, Jesse Bradford and Gabrielle Union - and if I had a dollar for every time I've uttered the phrase 'Brrr…it's cold in here, there must be some Toros in the atmosphere' to my dog following a particularly frigid winter stroll at nighttime...well, I'd be rich. That should give you some indication of how much I love the movie, which has gone on to inspire several sequels and one Broadway musical.

The Dramatists Guild of America is pleased to announce their Third National Conference, Writing the Changing World, which will be held from July 16-19, 2015 at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines in La Jolla, CA. The conference will include keynote speeches, legal and business seminars, workshops, panels, and conversations with theatre elite. New York City's Drama Book Shop hosted a panel discussion on the life & career of Madeline Kahn (1942-99), the Oscar-nominated, Emmy & Tony-winning actress on June 11, 2015. Star of such hit films as Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, Paper Moon & Clue & Broadway shows On the Twentieth Century, The Sisters Rosensweig & Two by Two, Kahn is the subject of a new biography, MADELINE KAHN: Being the Music • A Life (University Press of Mississippi) by William V. Madison, moderated the panel.

Today we continue the brand new 5 SONGS BY... series with an intriguing and informative new entry with a bit of a twist, legendary Golden Age songwriters Betty Comden and Adolph Green penned a sparkling score for their multi-award-winning 1978 musical ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY and Green's own accomplished daughter, Amanda Green, supplied new lyrics and approved some useful tweaks to the score that have been implemented for the brand new Roundabout Theatre Company revival of the Jazz Age tuner and she opens up about the process in an exclusive chat, highlighting some of her contributions as well as shedding a light on some of her own favorite moments in the acclaimed and adventurous operetta-based show.
