The Valentina Kozlova International Ballet Competition, April 26-30 at Symphony Space, NYC, ended in grand style with the announcement of medalists and winners of company contracts and school scholarships, and a Gala Performance with performances by guests Daniel Ulbricht and Erica Pereira  of New York City Ballet dancing the Tschaikovsky Pas de Deux (in memory of Violette Verdy, to whom the 2016 competition was dedicated), Washington Ballet's Brooklyn Mack and Ayano Kimura in the pas de deux from Giselle, Act II, and Soo Bin Lee and Seung Hyun Lee dancing the Black Swan pas de deux.

Nominations for the 2016 Fred and Adele Astaire Awards, which honor outstanding dance and choreography on stage and screen, were announced just yesterday at the Friar's Club by New York Post columnist Michael Riedel. For the first time, the Fred and Adele Astaire Awards have explored recognizing excellence in dance, movement, and choreography off-Broadway. Nominations for the 2016 Fred and Adele Astaire Awards, which honor outstanding dance and choreography on stage and screen, were announced today at the Friar's Club by New York Post columnist Michael Riedel. For the first time, the Fred and Adele Astaire Awards have explored recognizing excellence in dance, movement, and choreography off-Broadway. Dance Against Cancer Raises $250,000 for American Cancer Society

The Sixth Annual Dance Against Cancer was held on Monday, April 25, 2016.  The event had over 500 guests in attendance and raised more than $250,000 for the American Cancer Society, which will fund lifesaving cancer research and support patient and family service programs like Hope Lodge New York City.

Dances for a Variable Population Presents THE PHOENIX PROJECT, 6/4

 Celebrating dance and the beauty of age, Dances For a Variable Population (DVP), will present three performances of The Phoenix Project, a citywide public dance project that empowers older adults and reevaluates the aesthetics of aging. This world premiere collaboration will take place in three boroughs-Bronx, Queens and Harlem-over three Saturdays, June 4, 11 and 13. The Phoenix Project will make its Bronx debut at the New York Botanical Garden's award-winning and picturesque Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden on June 4. In the subsequent weekends, the piece will move with excerpts of the full work to Queens at the Queensbridge Riis Senior Center on June 11, and close their performances as part of the Summer on the Hudson Festival at the West Harlem Piers Park on June 18 as part of a Family Day event.
