CoreDance Contemporary & caitlin+dancers present an informal shared evening of dance, Split Bill, on Sunday, May 15 at City Center Studios, Studio 4. The female-led emerging contemporary companies will present new works, each 20 minutes in length, with reception to follow.

CoreDance Contemporary is an Australian modern dance company residing in New York City. Founded by Artistic Director Rebecca McCormac in 2011, the company is comprised of six dance artists who bring different cultural and dance backgrounds to the fore, to form a hardworking and dedicated ensemble. CoreDances objective is to investigate choreographically, different and oft times contradictory movement vocabulary through the physicality of one's kinetics and to explore the realization of this physicality as it takes form in the space. Ms. McCormac has an interdisciplinary approach to her work drawing ideas both contextually and visually to create work that is engaging for herself and her audience. Her work has been shown at APAP, Your Move NJ, Alvin Ailey, Steps on Broadway, DANY Studios, PMT, Dixon Place, White Wave, Triskelion Arts, The Actors Fund Arts Center and Green Space. www.coredance.com.au

CoreDance will present Strait-waistcoat, an exploration of one woman's struggle with restraint. Through different measures and conditions she is held unemotionally and dispassionately under control or within limits. Clothing and imagery depict her confinement and bodies and space her constraint. She is coerced to question what lies between the lines and hypothetically so are we.

Caitlin+dancers is an NYC-based dance collaborative directed by Caitlin Dutton. It is dedicated to the creation of work reflecting subtlety in humanity, imaginative grandeur, and promoting dance as a unifier in community. Since inception in 2014, C+D has been presented at various traditional, site-specific, and eclectic spaces in New York and New Jersey such as Dixon Place, Triskelion Arts, Westbeth, the historic Falchi Building (commissioned by chashama), The Actors Fund Theater, the DeBaun Center for the Performing Arts and Grounds for Sculpture. The company has toured to Atlanta, GA and Brattleboro, VT. www.caitlinplusdancers.org

Caitlin+dancers will present Gifts for the Void, a dance propelled by the idea of displacement: in movement, social context, and between bodies in space. Thrown into the realm of visual interest, Gifts plays with contrast, alignment, and communal effort. An original score by Michael Wall includes an intertwining of breath and instrumental substructure, creating a Lord of the Flies-type tension between dancers, sound, and environment. Gifts for the Void is a constantly shifting arena, moving fluidly between alliances and ideas.
