Review Roundup: Critics Weigh in on Cate Blanchett in WHEN WE HAVE SUFFICIENTLY TORTURED EACH OTHER

The National Theatre's When We Have Sufficiently Tortured Each Other, a new play by Martin Crimp is now on stage. It is directed by Katie Mitchell, with a cast including Cate Blanchett, who makes her National Theatre debut alongside Stephen Dillane returning to the National Theatre for the first time since The Coast of Utopia in 2002.

BWW Review: WHEN WE HAVE SUFFICIENTLY TORTURED EACH OTHER, National Theatre

Step away from the returns queue. The rare presence of Hollywood star Cate Blanchett on a London stage has caused a box office frenzy, but sadly this would-be provocative vehicle - Martin Crimp's loose variations on Samuel Richardson's 1740 proto-novel Pamela, directed by Katie Mitchell - isn't worthy of her talents, nor those of the excellent Stephen Dillane.

New Fortune Theatre Co. Announces San Diego Professional Premiere of LES LIASONS DANGEREUSES

Les Liaisons Dangereuses was adapted by Christopher Hampton in 1985 from an epistolary novel of the same title by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos, 1782. Although an army general and never before a writer, it has been said de Laclos intended to (in his own words), 'write a work which departed from the ordinary, which made a noise, and which would remain on earth after [his] death'. It is universally agreed he achieved his ambitions with his masterpiece, Liaisons.

F. Scott Fitzgerald's Characters Rewrite Gatsby

A new memoir by Robert Atwan has begun in Believer magazine from the perspective of Thomas Buchanan, Daisy's husband and the villain of F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 novel The Great Gatsby. The memoir, which is titled “That Summer, 1922: A Counter Memoir by Thomas Buchanan,” is one of a few new versions of Fitzgerald's novel to be written recently. Since the release of Baz Luhrmann's movie of The Great Gatsby has caused a spike in sales of the novel, imitations are likely on the horizon.
