BWW Reviews: Short North Stage Brings YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN to Life

a??a??a??a??a??a??a??Consider this entry from the 'If at first you don't succeed' department. A young television writer is recruited to write a book for the musical SHINBONE ALLEY. Haven't heard of it? That's not too surprising. It lasted a little over a month and closed on Broadway after 49 performances. Undaunted, he writes the first act for another musical, ALL-AMERICAN five years later. It also flops, closing on Broadway after 80 performances.

In this door-slamming Restoration-Era-style farce, former spy Aphra Behn tries to pen her first play — but with interruptions from a flirty actress, the king himself, and a mysterious associate from her past, Aphra finds herself torn between love for her paramours, her country, and her craft.

A vanished father. A pill-popping mother. Three sisters harboring shady little secrets. When the large Weston family unexpectedly reunites after Dad disappears, their Oklahoman family homestead explodes in a maelstrom of repressed truths and unsettling secrets. Mix in Violet, the drugged-up, scathingly acidic matriarch, and you've got a Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning play that unflinchingly - and uproariously - exposes the dark side of the Midwestern American family. Performances run April 24th thru April 22nd at the Columbus Performing Arts Center. Fri-Sat at 8pm, Sun at 2pm *10:30am performance on 4/20. 549 Franklin Avenue, Columbus, OH 43215. BWW Reviews: Madcap COMEDY OF TENORS a comedic tour de farce

There are two inherent dangers when presenting a sequel. The first is those who saw the earlier work will, undoubtedly, compare the current work to the former. The second is those who didn't see the previous piece might become lost when viewing the later work.

Photo Coverage: First look at Actors' Theatre of Columbus' THE WINTER'S TALE

Appalachia and the Bard collide in a night of live music and theatre. Sometimes dark tragedy, sometimes uproarious comedy, 'The Winter's Tale' sets the story of one of Shakespeare's more disparate and modern works, at the turn of the 19th & 20th century, between the coal mining country of Eastern Kentucky and the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. Inspired in part by the album 'Jean Ritchie & Doc Watson at Folk City' and heavily flavored with traditional mountain and American folk music performed by the cast, the play will celebrate the culture and the music of Appalachia, a region with strong cultural, musical and linguistic ties to Shakespeare's England, with a tragedy and joy that is uniquely and entertainingly American.
