The Stecher & Horowitz Foundation To Honor Margaret O. Carpenter At Gala Benefit, April 14 At NYC's Lotos Club


The Stecher and Horowitz Foundation will be honoring longtime Lawrence, NY resident Margaret O. Carpenter at its annual gala benefit evening on Friday, April 14, 2023 at New York City's Lotos Club.  Ms. Carpenter is being honored for her unique and magnificent humanitarian qualities, and has been associated with the Stecher & Horowitz Foundation for more than forty years both as a board member and currently as the Foundation's Board Chair.  As Chair of the Board, she has carried the Foundation to greater heights through her encouragement and perseverance.

The Stecher and Horowitz Foundation presents Ukrainian pianist, 21-year old Illia Ovcharenko, first prizewinner of the 2022 New York International Piano Competition, on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, 7:30 pm in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall.

Last night in the historic University Club some of New York's most esteemed citizens gathered to honor two of the most remarkable men in the music world……  Pianists, Educators, and humanitarians Melvin Stecher & Norman Horowitz.  The Gala celebrated the 60 years of the Stecher Horowitz Foundation and it's Founders and Executive Directors Melvin and Norman.  

2018 Winners Of The New York International Piano Competition Announced At Awards Ceremony Held On Friday Night


The 2018 winners of the New York International Piano Competition (TheNYIPC), under the auspices of the Stecher & Horowitz Foundation, were announced at an Awards Ceremony at Manhattan School of Music on Friday evening (June 22). Prizes and awards totaling $50,000 were presented.  Robert Sherman served as Master of Ceremonies.  The week-long event began on June 18.

As with all Stecher and Horowitz events it's all about the music and helping gifted young pianists navigate the demanding career they have chosen.  This years annual gala at the legendary architectural landmark University Club in New York City was attended by some of New York's most respected a accomplished citizens who share the Foundation's mission and who have a love of classical music.

Unlike those TV competitions which have arguable talent and hyped elimination dramatics, The Eighth New York International Piano Competition presented by The Stecher Horowitz Foundation is just the opposite.  From June 19-24 at The Manhattan School of Music, twenty two phenomenally talented young pianists ages 16-21 from around the world made some of the greatest music one can hear - and and they all won.

Few have been more supportive and inspiring in this endeavor than the legendary performing piano duo of Melvin Stecher and Norman Horowitz. These two distinguished musicians created the Stecher and Horowitz Foundation, a non-profit organization as an outgrowth of The Stecher and Horowitz School of the Arts in Cedarhurst, New York.

2014 New York International Competition Winners Announced


The Stecher and Horowitz Foundation has announced 18-year old Jun Hwi Cho of Seoul, South Korea as the Joyce B. Cowin First Prize Winner of the Seventh New York International Piano Competition. In addition to a $10,000 cash prize, the Stecher and Horowitz Foundation will also present Mr. Cho in distinguished venues throughout the United States, beginning in the 2014-15 season.

Seventh New York International Piano Competition to Be Held at The Manhattan School of Music, 6/22-27


The Seventh New York International Piano Competition (NYIPC), presented under the auspices of The Stecher and Horowitz Foundation of New York, will be held at The Manhattan School of Music from Sunday, June 22 through Friday, June 27, 2014. All events are open to the public. The competition will take place in four rounds, and will also include a seminar with Gabriela Lena Frank, this year's chosen composer for the NYIPC Commissioned Composition, moderated by WQXR host Robert Sherman on Thursday, June 26 at 7:00 p.m. as well as a masterclass with Jury members on Friday, June 27, at 2:00 p.m. The week will close with an Awards Ceremony and Performance by the Winners on Friday, June 27 at 7:00 p.m. For a complete schedule, see page 3.
