CLUB44 RECORDS has announced the new album Carol Sloane, Live at Birdland, which is available on streaming platforms and on CD in stores and online today, Friday, April 8. This release marks the veteran vocalist’s 60th anniversary as a recording artist, and her first album in over a decade. Recorded at the legendary New York jazz boite in September 2019, she was joined by an all-star trio, including the late Mike Renzi on piano, Jay Leonhart on bass, and Scott Hamilton on saxophone. As the old joke goes “he has a face for radio”….Well, Bob Merrill, Legends Radio host and interviewer, also has the face, demeanor, and musicianship to be a vocalist/bandleader. He brought the group Sunnnyside Swing to the Persson Hall at The Kravis Center last night for an evening of hits from The Great American Songbook.

BIRDLAND THEATER will present Eric Comstock in his new fall residency for four Saturdays in September: September 4, 11, 18 and 25, at 5:00 PM.  There is a $30 music charge. Birdland is located at 315 West 44th Street in New York.

After many recordings for the Chiaroscuro, Concord, Discovery, DMP, Palmetto, and Steeplechase record companies, pianist Bill Mays is releasing, on his own No Blooze Music label (released November 28, 2019), Mays Plays Mays: Bill Mays and Friends. The friends include guitarist John Hart, trumpeter Marvin Stamm, drummer Matt Wilson and bassist Martin Wind. Beautifully recorded by Matt Balitsaris, and mastered by Michael MacDonald, this marks Bill's 38th recording as a leader.

Happy Days Were Here Again at Lynn University last night because Ann Hampton Callaway sang the Barbra Streisand Songbook at Jan McCart's Live at Lynn Series. Arguably, one of the finest performers in the music world, Ann is also a composer and lyricist and her songs can be heard on seven of Barbara Streisand's albums. If you happened to be at Barbra's wedding to James Brolin you know that Ann's lyrics were sung by Barbra to the groom.
