Lyric Theatre Hosts First Annual Open House Event May 21

Lyric Theatre's first Open House event will take place at Lyric's Plaza Theater and at Lyric's ThElma Gaylord Academy & Production Center from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday May, 21. This free fun family event is open to the entire greater Oklahoma City metropolitan community.
Starting at 12:00 p.m., Lyric will be performing six shows on the Plaza stage including a 2011 Season Highlights show with songs from Oliver!, Hairspray, Ragtime, A Chorus Line, and Altar Boyz as well as performances of our touring show 1776 Interactive, Lyric's RoKademY and other educational programs. Guests will also get the opportunity to purchase discounted tickets. Lyric will be selling tickets to all summer shows at the Civic Center for 11 percent to 24 percent off the original price.

Throughout the day, Lyric will also offer 40-minute master classes in dance, singing and auditioning taught by professional choreographers, actors and directors at Lyric's ThElma Gaylord Academy & Production Center. And for those interested in what happens backstage, Lyric will provide opportunities to meet designers, production staff and get a first-hand look at how costumes, sets and props are designed and built.

Lyric Theatre's Artistic Director, Michael Baron, is excited to start this new annual event at Lyric Theatre to help kick-off Lyric's summer shows at the Civic Center. Baron says, "it promises to be a joyous day filled with lots of wonderful performances, insightful master classes at our ThElma Gaylord Academy, and a unique behind-the-scenes look at how Lyric brings theatre to life."

Lyric Theatre is Oklahoma's leading professional theatre based in the heart of Oklahoma City and produces an 8-show season of musicals and plays at the Plaza Theatre and the Civic Center. In addition, Lyric also offers opportunities for parents and their children to learn about the importance of arts education through theatre classes at its ThElma Gaylord Academy. Lyric invites everyone to be a part of the excitement of live theatre and meet the artists and staff who create it.

Interested guests of the Open House don't need to sign up in advance, just come to Lyric's Plaza Theater at 1727 NW 16th Street or come to Lyric's ThElma Gaylord Academy and Production Center at 1801 NW 16th Street in Oklahoma City between 12:00 and 6:00 p.m. to participate. All shows and master classes are seated on a first-come, first-serve basis.
