Broadway's Blair Baker (Oleanna, The Footage at The Flea) stars in a developmental reading new one woman show with songs, Big Star California written by Zac Kline (Messed Up Here Tonight, Together This Time), directed by TRoy Miller (The Light in the Piazza, The Tallest Building in the World, Luna Stage, Together This Time), with music and musical directed by Barrymore Nominee Mark T Evans (I Am Jim Thompson), lyrics by Eric Kubo (I Am Jim Thompson) with songs performed by Charissa Bertels (Stunt Girl, Manhattan Theatre Club) and Amy Linden (Cheer Wars).
The reading is part of Emerging Artists Theatre's New Work's Series: One Woman Standing. One Woman Standings presents over twenty new one woman shows running through May 21st.Part play, part rock concert Big Star California follows a young woman, Ryan, as she comes of age against the vibrant backdrop of California and the Pacific Northwest. The shows follows her as she goes on a car trip and comes to understand that what she is looking for might be a little further down the road.Baker previously stared in Kline's Messed Up Here Tonight, a site-specific play set in an Upper East Side apartment which had a sold-out run this winter. Kline and Miller previously worked together on Together This Time (with music and lyrics by Andrew Heyman) a rock musical presented in the 2010 NY International Fringe.
