The Star Keeper, an enchanting production by Théâtre de l'Œil (Dear Fizzy, New Vic 2004), combines a variety of stunning visuals, original music and puppet styles to tell a fanciful tale about a funny little worm with a funny little face. The Star Keeper, which first appeared on the New Victory stage in 1999, returns to The New Victory Theater from April 1-3, 2016.

As Pierrot lights up the night sky, he clumsily-and unwittingly-allows a star to fall from the heavens. Pretzel, a valiant and chivalrous little worm, finds the glowing orb and resolves to carry it back to its home in the outer stratosphere. Along the way, Pretzel must climb a tap-dancing spider's thread, journey through the dormitory of dreams, dive down into the depths of the ocean and outwit an entrancing bubble charmer in order to keep the celestial sphere safe. Will Pretzel complete his quest and return the star to its home in the cosmos?

For nearly 20 years, The Star Keeper, which The New York Times called "a striking display of highly skilled, creative puppetry and clever storytelling," has traversed the globe, bringing joy to audiences across the world. Pretzel's captivating story, created through the magic of marionettes, bunraku and shadow puppetry, is inhabited by comical, surprising and touching characters. The creation of The Star Keeper, Théâtre de l'Œil's 19th production, was the result of a years-long collaboration led by the company's artistic director, André Laliberté. After working to create what Laliberté calls a "theater of images," with puppets expertly designed by Richard Morin, set design by Richard Lacroix and haunting music composed by Libert Subirana, The Star Keeper, beloved by audiences the world over, came into being.
