Photo Flash: In Rehearsal with TO THE BONE at Cherry Lane Theatre
Under the direction of Lisa Peterson and currently in rehearsal, TO THE BONE is the provocative new play from Lisa Ramirez (author of EXIT CUCKOO) that will make everyone think twice about having their next chicken dinner. BroadwayWorld has a sneak peek at the cast in rehearsal below!
Kicking off the 90th anniversary season of the legendary Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce St. in Greenwich Village), TO THE BONE examines the lives of the undocumented, Latina immigrants who are subjected to substandard working conditions in the poultry plants of New York's Sullivan County. Inspired by interviews conducted by Ms. Ramirez and in the spirit of John Steinbecck's OF MICE AND MEN, the story gives audiences a look inside the lives of the invisible work force that puts food on our tables. At the center of the play, also, is the ongoing drama that surrounds the ways and means in which immigrant workers live and toil in the shadows in the country, in fear of being deported as games of political football concerning immigration are played across the country, often in out-of-the-way places like Sullivan County where opportunities exist but danger persists.
The cast for TO THE BONE features Lisa Ramirez, Annie Henk, Liza Fernandez, Paola Lázaro-Muñoz, Xochitl Romero, J.J. Perez, Gerardo Rodriguez and Haynes Thigpen. Scenic design is by Rachel Hauck, lighting design by Russell Champa, costume design by Theresa Squire, sound design by Jill Du Boff. Morgan Jenness is dramaturg, Terri Kohler is stage manager and Theresa Von Klug is general manager.
TO THE BONE will perform Mondays through Saturdays at 7 pm through October 4. Tickets range in price from $40 to $10. Also available for $95 are packages of tickets for all four Theater:Village plays on sale starting July 7 at www.theatervillage.com.
