Obsessions of an Art Student, written by Award-winning costume designer Carrie Robbins, has been chosen by New York New Works Theatre Festival for their 2016 competition.

Obsessions of an Art Student is told from the perspective of an artist at several stages of her career - as a young, struggling freelancer, and a successful artist reflecting on her life. The two voices playfully reveal the curious exploits that have accompanied the artist in her lifelong pursuit of drawing skills. From failing watercolor class at eight years old to getting carotenemia after too much time at the drawing board, it's clear Art isn't always an easy companion...except when Art is the only thing that comforts.

Directed by Luke Tudball (Co-Founding Artistic Director, Tasty Monster Productions), Obsessions of an Art Student stars Jenne Vath (The Actress, 2016 Thespis Summerfest Festival; Le Wedding Dress, NYNWTF 2015; The Winter's Tale, Yorick Theatre; Outstanding Supporting Actress nomination for Sawbones and The Diamond Eater, NYITAWARD, 2014) and Courtney Shaw (Devil and the Deep and The Butterfly, Mint Theatre; Urinetown, Westside Theatre; member Animus Theatre Company) as the older and younger artist, respectively. Eileen F. Haggerty is the Stage Manager (Broadway: Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark; The Boy From Oz; Fosse), with Chris Stratis as Assistant Stage Manager. Emily Hewitt is the Company Manager.

Now in its third year, the New York New Works Theatre Festival assembles a panel of Broadway producers and Emmy Award winners who, along with the audience, cast their votes to select the best show. The Festival showcases only 50 short plays or musicals in the competition, selected from a field of hundreds of applicants. Obsessions of an Art Student premiers at 7:00 PM at the Elektra Theatre on the second floor of the Times Square Arts Center, 300 West 43rd Street, New York. Tickets are available here ($21.25) or after 3:00 PM the day of the show at the Elektra theatre box office ($25).
