New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) Artistic Director James C. Nicola and Board of Trustees President Heather Randall have announced that William Russo has been named the theatre's new Managing Director effective May 12, 2008.

William Russo has served as General Manager at Playwrights Horizons since the spring of 2000.  Prior to that Mr. Russo served as Associate General Manager for Manhattan Theatre Club.  Earlier he spent nearly five years in the West End of London as an associate producer with David Pugh Limited for numerous shows, including the original production of Yasmina Reza's Art with Albert Finney, Tom Courtenay and Ken Stott; Kay Mellor's A Passionate Woman; and Michael Palin's The Weekend.  Mr. Russo is a vice-president of the League of off-Broadway Theatres and Producers and is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of the Theatre Division of Columbia University's School of the Arts.  He is a graduate of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.

Nicola says, "As we face what are promising to be challenging times ahead, I can think of no better person to collaborate with than Billy Russo, helping to steer NYTW into an abundant—and stable—future.  He brings a native ingenuity and creativity that have been burnished by years of experience in several outstanding theatre companies, and all of us at NYTW eagerly await his arrival."

Randall adds, "The Board of Trustees is thrilled that Billy Russo has joined our family as the new Managing Director.  He brings not only years of experience in the New York theatre scene, but boundless, intelligence, and enthusiasm to his position. I am confident that New York Theatre Workshop will greatly benefit from having him on our team."
