Ars Nova (Jason Eagan, Artistic Director; Jon Steingart and Jenny Wiener Steingart, Executive Producers) proudly present Two Girls for Five Bucks and the Ten Dollar Heartbreakers, written and performed by Cathleen Carr and Daiva Deupree and directed by Andy Donald. After a development process that began in Ars Nova's comedy series Tragedy Tomorrow, sketch comedy dynamos Carr and Deupree present their most ambitious show yet.

Babies will be made, virginity will be lost, wine will be drunk, exes will be stalked, and shame will be forgotten (not necessarily in that order) as Carr and Deupree's unique breed of honesty and anti-chick-flick charm lay bare the absurdities of modern life. Through hilarious sketches, outlandish characters, video interludes, and so much more, the pair will deliver an expansive sketch performance with an exhibitionist edge.

Carr and Deupree will be backed by the musical and occasionally romantic talents of their band The Ten Dollar Heartbreakers (Vinny Commisso, Justin Levine and Matt Stoulil). Jilted lovers everywhere agree that they're worth every penny.

The creative team includes set design by Josh Zangen, costume design by Jessica Ford, lighting design by Traci Klainer, sound design by Zane Birdwell and video design by Tim Fiore.
In 2002, both Carr and Deupree were performing regularly at Improv Asylum in Boston. Fueled by the shared experience of recent breakups, the girls struck up an instant creative partnership and Two Girls for Five Bucks was born. The emergent duo eventually made their way to New York, winning acclaim in venues all over the city as they refined their special brand of devastatingly comical sketches. After landing at Ars Nova in early 2008, they honed existing work, expanded and developed new material and, along with director Andy Donald, created this full-length world premiere.

Cathleen Carr (Writer/Performer) is a seasoned improviser who spent several years at Improv Asylum in Boston as well as WNEP Theater in Chicago. She is co-creator of the original comedy Waiting for Ennis Cotter, which toured comedy festivals all over the country. Cathleen was featured in the Eliot Norton Award winning production, P.S. Page Me Later, as well as Strange Faculty, which won the 2008 NBC Diversity Comedy Short competition. She is currently working on the upcoming web series, Simpatico.

Daiva Deupree (Writer/Performer) was most recently seen as "Marge" (a role she helped create and develop) in Pageant Play at the Berkshire Theatre Festival. She has performed improv and sketch comedy as a mainstage cast member at the Improv Asylum in Boston and studied mime at Marcel Marceau's International School of Mime in Paris.

Andy Donald (Director) is the co-founder of the Charlie B. Theater Company in Los Angeles. Directing: Movie Geek (Ars Nova residency, NY Fringe award), LOST: How a Certain TV Mega-Hunk Stole My Identity (PIT residency, NY Fringe), Glengarry Glen Ross, Marie and Bruce, Rats, Where Has Tommy Flowers Gone?, Baby with the Bathwater, Blogtown. Producing: Armed and Naked in America (Naked Angels), Public Theater, Second Stage, pilot development at ABC and HBO. Upcoming: Buddy Bolden New Orleans Project with Patrice Rushen. Education: NYU/Tisch, BFA; Columbia University, Producing MFA candidate.

As New York's premiere hub for emerging artists and new work, Ars Nova is committed to developing and producing eclectic theatre, comedy and music to feed today's popular culture. Past productions include Dixie's Tupperware Party, At Least It's Pink, 25 Questions for a Jewish Mother, Holy Cross Sucks!, Freestyle Love Supreme and The Wau Wau Sisters. In addition to its featured productions, Ars Nova supports and develops new work from the most promising emerging artists through its alternative comedy series (Tragedy Tomorrow), music series (Uncharted), public play-reading series (Out Loud), developmental residency program (Residency Encores) writer's group (Play Group) and artist-in-residence program.
