The All Stars Hip-Hop Cabaret opens its eighth season on Friday, June 11 and runs through June 26. Co-directed by Antoine "RL" Joyce and Dan "Dr. Dan" Friedman, the All Stars Hip-Hop Cabaret combines the tradition of European avant-garde theatre with American hip hop and creates a new kind of performance. Shows are at the Castillo Theatre, 543 West 42nd Street (between 10th & 11th Avenue).

The show features an eight member cast of rappers, poets and dancers dealing with the issues of poverty, parental abuse, teenage parenthood, death and more. With emcee, Antoine "RL" Joyce and DJ, the Untouchable DJ F.A.M.E., the show goes on a hip-hop emotional ride paying homage to the early days when hip-hop began.

Antoine "RL" Joyce (the Diddy of Development), from Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn began his hop-hop career at 13 years-old as a dancer with the All Stars Talent Show Network and then for many years as a Master of Ceremonies. Over 19 years he has danced in music videos, and produced hip-hop shows all over the country and internationally. After touring the world as a producer for hip-hop legend GrandMaster Flash, Joyce realized his passions for music, for young people and for changing the world were best expressed by building the All Stars, so he returned as a Development Officer at All Stars by day and the host of the Hip-Hop Cabaret by night.

Dan "Dr. Dan" Friedman, recently named Castillo's artistic director has worked in community and political theatre for over forty years. He originated and has directed All Stars' youth theatre, Youth Onstage! and serves as program director of Becoming Producers, the All Stars' program for developing producers. Decades ago, he toured the United States with the New York Street Theatre Caravan creating "agit-prop" theatre in streets and parks. He is a playwright and theatre historian.

As you might expect, the show contains strong language and adult situations and may not be suitable for younger children.

The All Stars Hip Hop Cabaret opens June 11th and runs through June 26th.
