ALL THE RAGE, Directed by Seth Barrish, Set for Off Broadway Engagement Beginning January 19

piece by piece productions, Rising Phoenix Repertory, and The Barrow Group have announced that All The Rage, written and performed by Martin Moran, and directed by Seth Barrish, will begin performances on Saturday, January 19, at 7pm at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater, 416 West 42 Street, between Ninth and Tenth Avenues. The opening night has been set for Wednesday, January 30, at 7pm.

What happens when a mild-mannered Manhattanite shows up at his father’s Las Vegas funeral and ends up in a fight with his fuming stepmother? Or when he suddenly finds himself in a room translating the details of an asylum seeker’s torture? In All The Rage, his new solo work, Martin Moran takes us on a quest from West of the Rockies to South of Johannesburg, unearthing the unexpected connections and human hilarities that arise as he attempts to resolve an ancient riddle: how is it that in one moment we might reach out in compassion and in the next…kill?

Martin Moran and Seth Barrish are the team that created 2004’s OBIE Award-winning The Tricky Part, Moran's frank and often funny look at the harrowing complexity of finding forgiveness in the wake of a Catholic boyhood marked by sexual abuse.

Martin Moran received an OBIE and two Drama Desk Nominations for his one-man play, The Tricky Part, based upon his memoir of the same title. Broadway/Off-Broadway performances include: Spamalot, Cabaret, Titanic, Bells Are Ringing, How To Succeed, Fun Home, Floyd Collins, A Man of No Importance, Cider House Rules. Regional work includes: La Jolla Playhouse (Puck), Long Wharf, Williamstown Theater Festival, Trinity Repertory Company, American Conservatory Theater, The Intiman. Film/TV: The Newsroom; The Big C; The Music Played On; Possible Side Affects; The Next Big Thing; Private Parts; Law &Order; Law & Order Criminal Intent; Dellaventura; Mary and Rhoda. Martin received the 2005Barnes and Noble Discover Great New Writers and 2005 Lambda Awards for his memoir: The Tricky Part. His recent writing has been published in Ploughshares and Pushcart. Most recently he wrote the book and lyrics for the Inner Voices solo musical, Borrowed Dust, composed by Joseph Thalken and starring Hunter Foster.

Seth Barrish directed the award-winning shows My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend, (Lucille Lortel Award for Best Solo Show, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle nominations for Best Solo Show), Sleepwalk With Me (Nightlife Award for Outstanding Comedian in a Major Performance), The Tricky Part (OBIE Award, Drama Desk Nominations for Best Play and Best Solo Show), Pentecost (Drama Desk Nomination for Best Play), Old Wicked Songs (Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award & Garland Award for Best Direction), and Good (Straw Hat Award for Best Direction), among dozens of productions spanning a 35-year career. Seth co-directed Mike Birbiglia’s feature film Sleepwalk With Me. Theaters Seth has worked with include The Intiman, New York Theater Workshop, The Long Wharf, The McCarter, The Geffen Playhouse, Sundance Theatre Lab, The Promenade, The Signature Theater, Asolo Center for the Performing Arts, San Jose Rep, The La Jolla Playhouse, Two River Theater, Playhouse 91, La Mama E.T.C., The Perry Street Theatre, Provincetown Rep, and The Barrow Group—a New York City Theatre Company where he is Co-Founder and Co-Artistic Director. A professional acting and directing teacher, Seth recently served as a Master Teacher at the International Director’s Symposium in Spoleto, Italy, and is author of the book An Actor’s Companion–99 Bits of Craft. Seth was a producer on Mike Birbiglia’s most recent CD Sleepwalk With Me Live. As an actor, Seth appears regularly in film and on television.

The recipient of the 2007 Caffe Cino Fellowship and the New York Innovative Theatre Award, Rising Phoenix Repertory was founded in 1999 by Artistic Director Daniel Talbott, and produces both in the Indie Theatre and Off-Broadway in traditional spaces and site-specifically around New York City. Recent productions include the acclaimed, sold-out Off-Broadway runs of 3C, (co-produced with Rattlestick and piece by piece productions), Elective Affinities (co-produced site-specifically with piece by piece and Soho Rep), Slipping (produced with piece by piece and Rattlestick) and Too Much Memory (also with piece by piece) which transferred to the New York Theatre Workshop’s Fourth Street Theatre after winning the FringeNYC award for Outstanding Play in 2008. RPR recently finished its year-and-a-half-long event called Cino Nights, inspired by Joe Cino and his Caffe Cino—one of the original birthplaces of Off-Off-Broadway theatre—for which the company commissioned nineteen playwrights to write new, full-length plays to be fully produced site-specifically in the intimate back room of East Village restaurant Jimmy’s No. 43 on a shoestring budget. Founded in 1986, The Barrow Group Theatre Company, provides inspiration and resources to the entire arts community of NYC. The TBG Arts Center and the Barrow Group Acting School, serve as an artistic home for some of New York’s finest actors, directors, playwrights, filmmakers, designers, and visual artists. Play Development is an important aspect of The Barrow Group’s programming. TBG regularly gives new plays a forum for works-in-progress or workshop productions. In addition to developing All The Rage, The Barrow Group also developed Martin Moran's award winning off-Broadway piece, The Tricky Part. Other recently developed projects include the recent Off-Broadway hit and Drama Desk Award Nominee Sleepwalk With Me, starring Mike Birbiglia and developed and directed by Seth Barrish, later adapted into a feature film co-directed by Mike Birbiglia and Seth Barrish, winning the Best of NEXT Audience Award at The Sundance Film Festival; the Off-Broadway production of My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend, which won the 2011 Lucille Lortel Winner for Best Solo Show; A Steady Rain by written by Keith Huff had it's first NYC workshop production at TBG, eventually landing on Broadway with Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman; Jon Maran’s The Temperamentals, which began in the TBG reading series and was produced on The TBG Main Stage before transferring to New World Stages, with Man Underdog and Daryl Roth Productions.

All the Rage plays Monday, Wednesday – Saturday at 7pm; Sunday at 3pm and 7pm, through Sunday, February 24 at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater, 416 West 42 Street, between Ninth and Tenth Avenues. There are no performances on Thursday, January 24 and Thursday, January 31; there will be added performances on Tuesday, January 22 and Tuesday, January 29, both at 7pm.
