Registration for Centenary Stage Company's Young Performers Workshop Now Open

Centenary Stage Company's critically acclaimed Young Performers Workshop returns this holiday season with a delightful selection of musical favorites in the annual Winter Festival of Shows. This year's Winter Festival of Shows includes Jesus Christ Superstar, George M! and Cabaret. The festival runs December 12 through December 20, with a cast of talented young thespians [full list below] from across New Jersey. All performances will be held in Centenary Stage Company's Little Theater located at 400 Jefferson Street Hackettstown, NJ. Spring registration is now open to new and returning young theatre artists for the Young Performers Workshops spring intensive. Registration deadline is February 8.

Jesus Christ Superstar is a rock opera with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice. The story is loosely based on the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, and tells the story of the last seven days of Jesus Christ's life with memorable songs such as I Don't Know How To Love Him. Performance dates are Sunday December 13 at 5:00pm, Friday December 18 at 8:00pm, Saturday December 19 at 2:00pm, Sunday December 20 at 4:00pm.

George M! tells the life story of George M. Cohen, a giant of the American musical theater who gave us such songs as Yankee Doodle Dandy, Over There, You're A Grand Old Flag, and Give My Regards to Broadway, and who transformed the Broadway variety show into a book - driven musical where song and dance advance plot. The show features music and lyrics by George M. Cohan, a book by Michael Stewart and John & Francine Pascal. As well as, lyrics and musical Revisions by Mary Cohan. Performance dates are Saturday December 12 at 5:00pm, Saturday December 19 at 5:00pm and Sunday December 20 at 7:00pm.

Cabaret, with a book by Joe Masteroff, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, is based on the play I Am A Camera by John Van Druten and The Berlin Stories by Christopher Isherwood. The original Broadway production was directed and produced by Harold Prince. Set in 1931 Berlin as the Nazis are rising to power, it is based in nightlife at the seedy Kit Kat Klub, and revolves around the 19 - year - old English cabaret performer Sally Bowles and her relationship with the young American writer Cliff Bradshaw. Performance dates are Sunday December 13 at 7:30pm, Saturday December 19 at 8:00pm and Sunday December 20 at 1:00pm.

Ticket prices for YPW Winter Festival of Shows are $12.50 for adults and $10 for children under twelve. Celebrating over 20 years of acclaimed musical theatre training for young thespians, the Centenary Stage Company's Young Performers Workshop Spring Session registration is now open to new and returning applicants. This 15-week intensive program has been designed to meet the needs of beginning, intermediate and advanced performers interested in working in the theatre. The hands-on program utilizes both the classroom and the production process to train young people in the theatre arts. Led by theatre, TV and film veteran Michael Blevins, the spring session will run from February 13 through June 5 and culminates in a festival of shows from May 27 through June 5. Registration deadline for all applicants is February 8.

Young Performers Workshop (YPW) is a musical theatre program under the auspices of the Centenary Stage Company, a not-for-profit professional Equity Theatre Company in residence at Centenary College. YPW is dedicated to the enrichment of young lives through the use of theatre arts and serves as a greenhouse for cultivating young theatre performers ages 8 - 18. The program is one of only a handful of theatre training programs in the nation that offers both formal education and practical application through production experience.

While no prior experience is required to participate, all new applicants must complete an interview session with program director, Michael Blevins, prior to acceptance into the program. New applicant interviews will be held on Saturday December 19 and Sunday December 20. To schedule an appointment contact the CSC Administrative Offices at (908) 979-0900. Tuition for the 15 week intensive is $395. A $75 non-refundable registration fee applied towards tuition is required.
