Rock and roll icon Matthew Sweet will take the stage at the South Orange Performing Arts Center on Sunday, September 24 at 7:30 p.m. to play music from his new album Tomorrow Forever.

This is Sweet's fifth album of new material since 2011's Modern Art, and 14th in his overall recording career. He has been in and out of the studio for over three decades crafting a unique Signature Sound that takes inspiration from all genres.

Sweet broke into the music scene in 1991 with his album Girlfriend, with the title track reaching the top 5 on the Modern Rock charts and creating the new genre of Power Pop. Girlfriend ushered in the reign of Alternative Modern Rock on the airwaves, solidifying Sweet's place among the genre pioneers. He went on to continue recording and releasing commercially successful albums including Altered Beast (1993) and 100% Fun (1995).

Sweet expanded his horizons past the studio writing, recording and performing a Journey parody song for the comedy animated series The Simpsons. He also served as a consultant for Tim Burton's 2014 film Big Eyes.

Tomorrow Forever is an introspective collection inspired by Matthew's move to his native Omaha and the tragic loss of his mother. From that loss, Matthew overcame writer's block with a burst of creative spirit, recording 38 songs in his newly built full production home studio. The album has a sound fans have come to expect while still pushing these familiar elements into previously unexplored territory, reflecting the profound changes in his life over the past six years. Essentially, the album contemplates the question: Does what is real extend beyond what the consciousness can readily grasp?

Matthew Sweet will bring Tomorrow Forever to the South Orange Performing Arts Center on Sunday, September 24 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $30-$40 and go on sale to the public at noon on May 5. They can be purchased online at www.sopacnow.org/matthew-sweet or by calling the box office at (973) 313-2787.
