The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey announced the casting of Lisa Harrow as Queen Eleanor in The Lion in Winter by James Goldman running on the Theatre's Main Stage from October 20 through November 14.  Company member Laila Robins was originally slated to portray the role of Eleanor, but had to withdraw due to a scheduling conflict.   The casting of Ms. Harrow is an exciting opportunity for Shakespeare Theatre audiences to be introduced to the work of this remarkable actress.    For tickets or more information, call the box office at 973-408-5600 or visit www.ShakespeareNJ.org.    Discount 3-play ticket packages are also available.

Harrow, born in New Zealand, is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA) and was a member of the BBC Radio's Repertory Company.   She joined the Royal Shakespeare Company and performed in Twelfth Night opposite Judy Dench and The Merchant of Venice opposite Patrick Stewart among others.   A fixture on British television, she appeared in the title role of the BBC/Masterpiece Theatre series Nancy Astor.   She appeared in the off-Broadway production of the Pulitzer Prize winning play Wit and has appeared at theatres throughout the United States including Yale Repertory Theatre, Shakespeare Theatre DC, La Jolla Playhouse, Pittsburgh Public Theatre, and Chautauqua Theatre Company.  Her film credits include All Creatures Great and Small, All Things Bright and Beautiful, Omen III: The Final Conflict and Shaker Run.

The Lion in Winter, a wickedly biting "domestic comedy" of a dysfunctional family dynasty in the year 1183 was nominated for two Tony Awards when it opened on Broadway in 1966.  It was later made into an Academy Award-winning film.  Few families can boast a more ferocious power struggle than that of the Plantagenet family.  In The Lion in Winter the battlefield is a psychological one where the weapons of choice are sharp-edged words, acerbic humor and emotional grenades packed with the bitter shrapnel of the past.   The Lion in Winter begins performances on October 20 and runs through November 14.
Additional casting will be announced shortly.
