McCarter Theatre Center is pleased to announce an eclectic mix of presented programming in the month of May. In addition to the previously announced concerts by Amos Lee, Dark Star Orchestra, and Todd Rundgren, McCarter Theatre Center will also be hosting performances from Alan Cumming, Art Garfunkel, the rescheduled concert by bass-baritone Eric Owens, and Dance Theatre of Harlem.

All McCarter presented series bring artists of the highest caliber to Princeton, and is curated by Special Programming Director William W. Lockwood, the driving force behind McCarter Theatre Center's reputation as one of the premiere arts presenters in the country.

ALAN CUMMING - Sings Sappy Songs
Friday, May 13 - 8:00 p.m.
Matthews Stage - LIMITED AVAILABILITY - Tickets: $75.00
What do last spring's Tony Award telecast, the Broadway revival of Cabaret, and the hit TV show The Good Wife have in common? They all share the prodigious and eclectic talent of Alan Cumming, the TV and cabaret superstar who brings his evening of Sappy Songs to McCarter. Sheer eclecticism is the only word for the emotional firestorm he creates, ranging from songs of Noel Coward and Rufus Wainwright to Sondheim, Annie Lenox, and-yes-even Miley Cyrus. ("You'll laugh, you'll cry, have a hankie ready" he advises). No one has said it better than The New York Times which called him "a bawdy, countercultural sprite."

ART GARFUNKEL
Friday, May 20 - 8:00 p.m.
Matthews Stage - Tickets: $60.00 - $70.00
Since leaving Simon and Garfunkel in 1970, Art has continued to make an indelible mark on the music world, releasing 12 solo albums (including his latest, Some Enchanted Evenings). But he's also enjoyed a successful film career (Carnal Knowledge, Catch 22), published a book of poetry (Still Water), walked across Japan and America, and performed around the world. A Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, Garfunkel will bring his entire catalogue to bear in an exciting return to McCarter.

ERIC OWENS, bass-baritone
Thursday, May 19 - 7:30 p.m.
Matthews Stage
Tickets: $25.00 - $56.00
Few singers in recent years have generated more buzz and excitement than Eric Owens. Equally at home in orchestral, recital, and opera, there is seemingly nothing he cannot do, bringing his powerful poise, expansive voice, and acting faculties to stages around the world. To cite a few recent triumphs: Alberich in the Met's latest Ring Cycle; General Leslie Groves in John Adams' Doctor Atomic; Stephen Kumalo in Lost in the Stars and the title role in Verdi's Macbeth, both at Glimmerglass (where he is artist in residence). His McCarter program will include songs and lieder by Schubert, Mozart, Brahms, and Ravel, as well as O tu Palermo, from Verdi's I Vespri Siciliani. Mr. Owens will conclude his recital with a group of Broadway selections from Camelot, South Pacific, and Kurt Weill's Lost in the Stars.

DANCE THEATRE OF HARLEM
Wednesday, May 18 - 7:30 p.m.
Matthews Stage
Tickets $30.00 - $62.00
McCarter is honored to join the rest of the dance world in welcoming back Dance Theatre of Harlem. Re-launched in 2013 after a 10+ year hiatus-and now under the artistic direction of Virginia Johnson, its star ballerina for 28 years-its return is a reason for celebration. Formed by Arthur Mitchell and Karel Shook in 1969, DTH took on the barrier-breaking mission of training and presenting black classical dancers to the world and becoming a thriving international touring troupe. Their program will include Robert Garland's Return, danced to music by Aretha Franklin and James Brown.
