The Palace Theatre has announced it is a recipient of a $10,000 grant award from the Arthur Getz Charitable Trust that will contribute to the expense of re-rigging and upgrading the fly system. The Arthur Getz Charitable Trust, located in Manchester,NH, was created for special projects for tax exempt organizations. The latest gift to the Palace Theatre Trust will be used to support improvements to the fly system. Fly systems are fundamental for theatrical productions as they are used to raise and lower items on and off the stage. When the theatre opened nearly one hundred years ago, the manual counterweight fly system was the state-of-the art. The original fly system is still being used and for the safety of actors and staff, must be re-rigged to ensure its structural integrity.

The Board of Trustees of the Palace Theatre Trust is grateful for the generosity of the Arthur Getz Charitable Trust, which has been a major supporter of the Palace Theatre for over a decade and has helped the Palace with a variety of projects designed to update and improve the facility. The Trust's commitment assists the Palace Theatre in maintaining a community-oriented center for the exploration and presentation of theatre, music, and dance.

Built in 1914, the Palace Theatre is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Palace Theatre is a nonprofit performing arts center that hosts its own professional company, youth and teen program and presenting acts. It is committed to achieving its mission through preserving the historic facilities of the theatre, responding creatively to the cultural and entertainment needs of the community and governing in a fiscally responsible and strategic manner. The Palace Theatre's Web site is www.palacetheatre.org.
