Lyric Arts will present John Michael Tebelak's classic tale of friendship and sacrifice, Godspell, to audiences at the Main Street Stage from February 14th through March 16th, 2014.

Prepare ye for Godspell, the greatest story ever told as you've never seen it before! This beloved classic with new music from Stephen Schwartz-the award-winning composer of Wicked and Pippin-is a timeless tale of friendship, loyalty, and love that has touched the hearts of countless theatergoers all over the world. Fresh from a 2011 Broadway revival, this updated, contemporary retelling brings one of the most enduring shows of all time to life to a whole new audience.

"It's a very serious show, and it has a very serious message, but the journey there is hilarious," says Director Robert Neu. "Some of the things we're thinking of integrating into the show include vaudeville, puppetry, dancing, gymnastics, juggling, tumbling, magic tricks, audience participation, and more!"

Robert Neu is one of two Resident Directors here at Lyric Arts. Bringing experience from plays such as 2011's Almost Maine and last season's hit comedy Becky's New Car, he believes that we will be able to make Godspell shine on the Main Street Stage. "For most of my life, when I thought of Godspell, all I thought was 'Oh, god, the seventies,'" said Neu. "But when I saw the revival on Broadway, I realized I was suffering from a lack of imagination. During intermission, I went back and bought another ticket, because I was falling madly in love with it."

Lyric Arts is also excited to welcome new talent to the stage. For some of the actors, this is their debut performance on the Main Street Stage, so keep an eye out for some rising stars.

Godspell opens Friday, February 14th and runs through Sunday, March 16th, 2014. Purchase tickets for the production by calling the box office at 763-422-1838 or by visiting the Lyric Arts website at www.lyricarts.org.
