Based on user demand, BWW is taking our commitment to arts education one step further with the launch of the BWW Student Center - High School Edition. This directory features upcoming show listings for more than 1500 high schools nationwide with more being added each week. Schools can register for 'enhanced' listings on the site - adding in photos, cast lists, videos, links and more. Productions that take advantage of this will receive highlights on our listing pages, extra editorial mentions and potential spotlight features.

And just like we do with our College Center, each week BWW will be selecting a high-school program and featuring it as our 'School in the Spotlight: High-School Edition'.

-- BWW Student Center Readers: What do you want to see in 2012-2013? Have your say here!

This week, BWW School Center is happy to introduce its readers to the Drama Department at Lyman High School in Longwood, Florida!

The mission of the Lyman Drama Department is "to expose the students of Lyman High School to all aspects of Theatre in a safe, fun environment, while inspiring a love for the craft, and providing a highly comprehensive Theatrical Education that will give the serious Drama student a solid foundation upon which to base all future endeavors." Classes cater to those students interested in performance as well as technical subjects by offering introductory, intermediary and advanced courses in drama and stagecraft. Drama subjects include acting, scene study, theater history, production, directing, as well as industry preparation which delves into audition techniques and portfolio preparation. Students opting for the stagecraft track learn set building and design, costume design, lighting and sound, as well as publicity and stage management.

Lyman also offers a playwriting class for individuals wishing to hone their writing skills and where students' works are developed into full-lenght plays with the involvement of student actors.

While the 2011-2012 production year has already come to a close, the school can look back on a very successful season hosted by the department's Lymlight Productions & Thespian Troupe 2329. Recent stagings include 'Noises Off', 'Hamlet', 'State Fair', and an evening of new play readings.
