Daryl Sherman & Jay Leonhart

Back By Popular Demand

Equally at home in the world of jazz and cabaret, singer/pianist Daryl Sherman is internationally acclaimed for a stellar 14-year run at the Waldorf-Astoria where she played Cole Porter's Steinway. Last June, she headlined the annual Cole Porter Festival in his hometown of Peru, IN. Sherman has performed at The Algonquin's Oak Room where the Village VoIce Touted her as "someone who fits the room like Derek Jeter fits the Yankees." She's also worked at Feinstein's, Rose Hall with Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Dizzy's Coca Cola and 59E59 Theaters where she was lauded for her band singer role in a centennial tribute to Artie Shaw. As a sparkling mainstay of Manhattan's nightlife, there's hardly a jazz joint, supper club, Chinese restaurant or hotel that Daryl has missed. Her many recordings are in regular national rotation on Cable TV's Music Choice and Sirius/XM Radio. She was presented the 2010 MAC Award "Best Major Recording" for her Johnny Mercer Centennial CD - which was used in a Mercer documentary produced by Clint Eastwood. A frequent guest and guest host on Marian McPartland's NPR Piano Jazz, Sherman also recently hosted and was Artistic Director for the 92nd St Y's Lyrics & Lyricists tribute to Johnny Burke

Jay Leonhart is the undisputed guru of New York bass players and has worked with such diverse legends as Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, Queen Latifah and Sting. He has recorded 15 solo albums and is known for his sharp humor and witty ad-libs.

Reviews of Daryl Sherman & Jay Leonhart:

+ Don Heckman, Los Angeles Times: "Add Jay Leonhart to the small, very exclusive list of jazz humorists in the upper echelon of a group that includes Oscar Brown Jr., Dave Frishberg and Bob Dorough."

+ Stephen Holden, The New York Times: "Daryl Sherman is "delightful, impeccable, voice like honeysuckle, stylistic compendium of Billie Holiday, Mildred Bailey and Blossom Dearie."

+ Jazz Times: "As a bass player, Jay Leonhart is in the same exalted league as his mentor, Ray Brown. As a vocalist, he remains much like the Fred Astaire of jazz - a craftsman so seamlessly smooth that casual observers often fail to grasp the immensity of his talent."

+ Village Voice: "Smart, funny and swinging...Daryl Sherman's a canny singer and pianist with a lilting sound and engaging personal style."

The cost to attend Daryl Sherman & Jay Leonhart is $110 for dinner & show; $70 for show only.

For all Royal Room Cabaret performances, the doors open at 6:30 for dinner and the show starts around 8, with late shows possible on Friday and Saturday nights.
