So you say theres nothing for kids and families to do in Key West? The Key West Players have an answer with their upcoming production of Cinderella A Shoe Musical. Written and directed by Bill Wheeler with music and lyrics by Jan Callner, this musical will delight children of all ages.

Performances will be every Saturday throughout November at 1:00 pm at The Waterfront Playhouse. Cinderella will feature some of Key West's finest comedic talents: David Black, Kyle Caskey, Tony Konrath, Scott Zimmerman, Kyla Runkle Piscopink, Michael McCabe and Valerie Carr. The set and lighting will be by the Waterfront's technical director, Mike Boyer.

Tickets are $10 for children and $12 for adults and are available at the door.

Bill Wheeler and Jan Callner have taken the familiar Cinderella story and created a hilarious fractured fairy tale. In this version of Cinderella, things are just a little bit strange. Cinderella's Fairy Godmother (Valerie Carr) is a bit off with her magic, Cinderella's Prince (Michael McCabe) is so good he's named twice Prince Prince - and the ugly stepsisters really put the ug in ugly. The sisters Repulsa (David Black) and Nausea (Kyle Caskey) join their evil mother, Gagatha (Tony Konrath) in making poor Cinderella's life miserable. But Cinderella (Kyle Runkle Piscopink) eventually triumphs, thanks to her Fairy Godmother and a pair of perfect pumps.

Bill Wheeler and Jan Callner have created 25 children's musicals that have been professionally mounted, including The Frog Prince which played at the Red Barn Theatre. Two years ago, under the auspices of the Key West Players, they were awarded a Marion Stevens grant to create Conched!, a musical on diversity and acceptance that toured elementary schools from Key West to Marathon. Last April a production was remounted and played in Bayview Park. They are the founders and directors of the Key West Players annual summer theatre workshop for children, Lights Up On Kids which runs for 3 weeks in July. The workshop covers all aspects of theatre and culminates in a self-produced production that plays to a packed matinee audience at the Waterfront.

Bill Wheeler, the writer and director of Cinderella, has become a staple on the local theatre scene, directing the Waterfront's production of Pippin, and performing in their productions of Little Shop of Horrors, The Bible, the Complete Word of God, The Graduate, and as the narrator in last year's production of The Rocky Horror Show at the Red Barn Theatre.

Ms. Callner is recognized for her clever scores and lyrics. For Cinderella, she has created songs like We're Having A Ball and If The Shoe Fits. Key West credits include musical director for Pippin, MeshuggahNuns and Pot Shots. Now living in Connecticut, she was also a frequent vocalist with Island Opera.

Mr. Wheeler has assembled a terrific cast. Kyla Runkle Piscopink (Cinderella) recently directed, coordinated, choreographed and performed with the Brazen Hussies concert, All Of Me at The Waterfront. She was also seen in last season's The Graduate and Rocky Horror Show. Mike McCabe (Prince Prince) played the title role in Pippin and will appear in the upcoming Carl Hiaasens Lucky You at the Waterfront Playhouse. David Black (Repulsa) will also be part of Lucky You as well as Officer Lockstock in the Waterfront's Urinetown, the Musical. He has been in The Bible, Most Happy Fella, The Spitfire Grill, and his one-man triumph in Fully Loaded at the Red Barn. Kyle Caskey (Nausea) is also a writer of childrens musicals, and his show The Garbage People will be at the Red Barn in December. He's appeared in Lettice and Lovage, Equus and Frozen. Tony Konrath (Gagatha) is well-known in Key West for his direction of The Pride Follies and countless pageants. His charming Panto of Aladdin was created with Vanessa McCaffrey and seen at the San Carlos. Valerie Carr (Fairy Godmother) was seen in last seasons Conched! and The Garbage People and will also be seen in Carl Hiaasens Lucky You. Rounding out the cast is Scott Zimmerman as the Page, who acts as the narrator to the shenanigans. He has a long list of professional credits and has been seen in Island Opera's productions of Fiddler On The Roof, The Most Happy Fella and will be seen in their upcoming production of South Pacific.

Tickets will be available at the door the day of the performance with general admission. Prices are $10 for children and $12 for adults. If you have any questions, please call the box office at 305-294-5015 or go to www.waterfrontplayhouse.com .
