Drumming virtuoso and jazz fusion pioneer Billy Cobham and the Spectrum 40 Band will present a performance to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Cobham's breakthrough album, Spectrum, at Mesa Arts Center, August 6 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are on sale now at Mesa Arts Center's Box Office, at mesaartscenter.com and by calling 480-644-6500.

The performance will feature Cobham's complex style of play, supported by band members Dean Brown (guitar), Ric Fierabracci (bass), and Gerry Etkins (keyboard). Cobham's musical abilities have thrilled music lovers around the globe since the early '70s when he was a founding member of the Mahavishnu Orchestra and he contributed to four pivotal recordings by trumpeter MiLes Davis. Today, after decades of musical exploration, the versatile Cobham continues to evolve and innovate as a master drummer, percussionist, composer, producer, educator and clinician.

While in Mesa, Cobham will also offer an immersive five-day learning experience for advanced students, semi-pro and professional bassists, drummers, guitarists and keyboard players across all genres and styles. The learning opportunity is not just for jazz students, as Billy notes, "The Art of the Rhythm Section will help you get your band face on and help you to work better as a team with your fellow musicians in the Rhythm Section."
