Dramatic Repertory Company founder Keith Powell Beyland had a stroke on Sept. 26, so members of the Portland theatre community are rallying to perform readings of his plays in order to help pay Beyland's medical bills. The readings will be held Nov. 5-7 at Portland Stage Company.

Set designer and photographer Craig Robinson said, "We can't do anything directly for Keith, but we felt we had to do something. We want to support Keith and his family and let them know we're thinking of him."

So far, almost $11,000 of the $75,000 goal has been met, the Portland Press reports.

Beyland is currently receiving care at New England Rehabilitation Hospital in Portland, where he is showing signs of improvement.
