Kentucky Opera to Celebrate 65th Anniversary This Weekend

The Kentucky Opera celebrates 65 years of creativity, ingenuity and grand opera tradition with a 2-day celebration, a public event on August 5 and a private event on August 6.

NuLu Hits the High Notes is a public passport party taking place on Fri., August 5 from 6 to 9 p.m. Pick up an event passport at any participating store or restaurant in NuLu starting July 30, and on August 5, you can explore NuLu to find Kentucky Opera performers, singing the best opera and musical theatre tunes from the last 65 years. Stamp your passport at each participating location, and the first 200 people to find all six musical spots will receive a free gift bag filled with exclusive swag, including Kentucky Opera T-shirts, merchandise and more. Passports can also be used for discounts at NuLu-area shops and restaurants.

An exclusive, invite-only gArden Party in NuLu will take place on Sat., August 6 from 7 to 10 p.m. The Blue Sapphire Anniversary Celebration Under the Stars will be open only to subscribers and Kentucky Opera stakeholders. The celebration will take place outside in an intimate, tented space next to the Green Building (732 E Market St.). There, guests will have the opportunity to meet the Kentucky Opera's new General Director, Ian Derrer, at his first Louisville appearance. Tickets are $100/person and includes hors d'oeuvres and a 3-course meal from Wiltshire Pantry and an open bar.

There will also be a special performance from Morgan Smith, Baritone, appearing in Kentucky Opera's production of MADAME BUTTERFLY on September 23 and 25 at the Brown Theatre.
