Multi-cultural cast helmed by LA Director Kila Kitu (The Every 28 Hours Plays, Black Women State of the Union) brings to life Internationally Produced Playwright Henry Ong’s ( Madame Mao's Memories, Fabric, Sweet Karma) epic six-hour stage adaptation of Dream of the Red Chamber, based on the beloved 18th century Chinese classic, presented free to the public in four acts over three weekends on Saturdays in April and May outdoors in the Inglewood Amphitheater in Edward Vincent Jr Park., 714 Warren Lane in Inglewood. All performances are free. In order to view the entire play, the public may select performances from the following schedule:

[Act II starts at 12:30pm.]

Saturday, May 20, 10:30am Act III and Act IV (with one intermission)
[Act IV starts at 12:30pm.]

Saturday, May 27, 10:30am Acts I, II, III, IV (with three intermissions)
[Act II starts at 12:30pm; Act III at 2:30pm, Act IV at 4:30pm]

The audience is invited to bring lunch and to wear comfortable clothes and shoes. In the event of inclement weather, performances will take place indoors at the Agee Playhouse, also in Vincent Park.

Dream of the Red Chamber, a sprawling narrative that interweaves realism and surrealism, explores the decline of the fortunes of the noble Chia clan during the early Ching dynasty through a tale of two cousins. The play is offered through Why Dream in Inglewood?, a City of Inglewood Growing Artists Performed Projects (IGAPP) Initiative, awarded to Playwright Ong. This initiative exposes Inglewood audiences to the practices of contemporary artists and supports the work and growth of artists.

Dream will be performed by a cast of thirteen actors, most of whom will play multiple roles. Live music composed and performed by Longo Chu and original choreography by Annie Yee complement the theatrical work with costume design by Benita Elliott. Noted actor and director Kila Kitu produces and co-directs the work.
