On Monday, August 6 Watts Village Theater Company (WVTC) will host its annual Gala titled, "Meet Me @Metro: Uncovering LA's Hidden Treasures VIP Gala & Pre-Show." The Gala will serve to promote WVTC's annual site-specific collaboration with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, "Meet Me @Metro: Uncovering LA's Hidden Treasures," which runs from Aug. 25 - Sept. 2, 2012. Proceeds from the event will go towards programming including WVTC's ongoing after-school underserved youth arts education programming in South LA in partnership with Green Dot Public Schools.

During the evening, WVTC will present the WVTC Corporate Tower Award to Magic Johnson Foundation President AmeLia Williamson, WVTC Civic Tower Award to Metro CEO Arthur Leahy, WVTC Celebrity Tower Award to American Idol's Allison Iraheta and WVTC Community Tower Award to Parents of Watts Founder & Executive Director Sweet Alice Harris.
KPCC's Crawford Family Forum Producer Jon Cohn will serve as Master of Ceremonies and the Voice's Frenchie Davis along with Iraheta will entertain guests with exclusive performances.

The Gala, catered by Traxx Restaurant in Union Station, will feature dinner and an open bar courtesy of Dama Tequila, as well as a red carpet hosted by Rich Girl Productions beginning at 5:30pm. Confirmed VIP guests include the Wire's Wendell Pierce and Liberty Hill Foundation President Kafi Blumenfield. Presenters include Union Bank's VPs Clifton Johnson and Marsha Works, Watts Towers Arts Center Executive Director Rosie Lee Hooks, Actors Equity Association Board Member Barbara Roberts and Metro COO Frank Alejandro. Raffle items will be presented throughout the evening courtesy of the LA Philharmonic, Watts Towers Arts Center, Terranea Resort, Avalon Hotel, the W Hotel, Sony Pictures Entertainment, the Magic Johnson Foundation and Fred Segal.

Recently recommended for funding from the Discretionary Fund of the Office of LA County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, this year's Meet Me @Metro production is WVTC's third annual celebration of transit and performing arts. This hands-on artistic expedition will search out culturally significant sites around the Metro rail system and create "artistic excavations" that will allow audience members to discover and learn about Los Angeles' rich and diverse artistic history in an active and participatory manner. The production is developed in partnership with Rogue Artists Ensemble, East LA Rep, Moving Arts,
Company of Strangers, the Vault Theater Ensemble and Opera del Espacio.
