RECALL, ZOMBIES FROM THE BEYOND & More Set for Visceral Company's 2014 Season

The Visceral Company, winner of "best LA theater season" accolades for 2013 from review aggregate site Bitter Lemons, has announced its 2014 season production schedule.

Included in the lineup are a fresh from off-Broadway West Coast premiere (Recall), an LA premiere and the company's first musical production (Zombies from the Beyond), and two world premiere productions developed by The Visceral Company (The Call of Cthulhu and a still-in-development holiday show).

RECALL
March 21-May 4, 2014
by Eliza Clark (writer for the AMC series Rubicon and The Killing)
directed by Dan Spurgeon
Direct from off-Broadway, this is the West Coast premiere of this acclaimed new science fiction thriller.
Set in a dystopian near-future, a single mom protects her violent teenage daughter from being "recalled" by the government to cure her psychopathic impulses.

ZOMBIES FROM THE BEYOND
May 30-July 20, 2014
book, music, and lyrics by James Valcq (co-writer of the musical The Spitfire Grill)
directed by Dan Spurgeon
musical direction by Garth Herberg
choreography by Anna Safar
The LA premiere of this rarely performed musical comedy sendup of 1950s B-movies takes a satirical look American ideals and foibles in the Eisenhower era.
Cold War and space race paranoia threaten the good folks at the fictional Milwaukee Space Center in 1955 when a flying saucer lands. The craft is piloted by Zombina, a buxom alien aviatrix bent on procuring he-specimens to repopulate her planet. This show brings the 1950s nostalgically and hilariously to life with a tuneful, toe-tapping score.
This show got rave reviews when it opened off-Broadway in 1995, but closed quickly and was nearly forgotten. Now making its long-delayed debut on the LA stage as part of the 2014 Hollywood Fringe Festival.

THE CALL OF CTHULHU
September-November 2014 (exact dates TBA)
adapted and performed by Frank Blocker (NY Drama Desk nominee, Southern Gothic Novel)
directed by Dan Spurgeon
An all-new world premiere solo performance adaptation of the Lovecraft classic.

HOLIDAY SHOW (TBA)
December 2014
An all-new world premiere holiday show - with a Visceral twist! Details to be announced in summer 2014.

All performances will be at The Visceral Company's home, the Lex Theatre, 6760 Lexington Ave., Hollywood, CA. Performances will generally be on Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 pm and Sunday matinees at 3 pm; exact performance schedules will be announced closer to each show's opening.

The Visceral Company, called "LA's premiere horror theatre troupe" by Fangoria magazine, specializes in works that explore the dark, strange, and macabre - killer shows from darker places. We hope to encourage further onstage exploration of the horror, thriller, and science fiction genres, which have been underrepresented in theatre, and to build an appreciation of theatre in the younger audiences that are traditionally drawn to them.
