Jodi Picoult Musical BETWEEN THE LINES to Premiere as Part of Kansas City Rep's 2017-18 Season

Kansas City Repertory Theatre offered a sneak peek at their diverse 2017-2018 season this evening at a special invitation-only event for Donors and Subscribers announcing the featured plays and musicals slated for Spencer Theatre and Copaken Stage.
"The theatre is one of the last places where we still sit together in a room and have a collective experience. My hope is that our 2017/2018 season at Kansas City Rep will start conversations with artists, with audiences and within the city itself. These plays and musicals celebrate the exhilarating scope of storytelling and the brave and bold themes that have marked our theatre company since 1964. They are immediate, important, ingenious, highly entertaining, and very much speak to this moment in time," said Eric Rosen, Artistic Director.

An enchanting new musical that asks the questions - what would happen if the lines between fiction and fantasy become blurred with reality? Fences
The winner of the 1987 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play that same year, Fences is set in 1950s Pittsburgh against the backdrop of a rapidly changing America. Perhaps the most highly-regarded of Wilson's soaring ten-play cycle, it tells the gripping story of an African-American father and son and the hopes and dreams to which they desperately cling. Powerful and poetic, Fences is a true American classic.
A Christmas Carol
Adapted for the stage by Barbara Field.
This perennial holiday favorite returns to Spencer Theatre. Now in its 37th season, it is a Kansas City staple, but always with a KCRep twist! Ebenezer Scrooge is an old miser who is visited by the ghost of his former business partner and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future in this classic tale meant for the entire family to embrace and enjoy.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time
Adapted for the stage by Simon Stephens
Based on the best-selling book by Mark Haddon
Winner of the 2015 Tony Award for Best New Play, Curious Incident tells the story of 15-year-old Christopher, a boy with an extraordinary brain who is exceptionally intelligent but ill-equipped for dealing with everyday life. When Christopher falls under suspicion for killing the neighbor's dog, he sets out on a journey to find the real culprit that will change his life forever.
Sex with Strangers

Among the productions being considered for the yet-to-be-determined spring musical is AMERICAN IDIOT, SWEENEY TODD, OKLAHOMA, and FALSETTOS. In a special twist, KCRep has asked their donors and subscribers to be part of the decision-making process by voting for their favorite musical of the bunch, and that result once tallied, will weigh into the final decision by the Artistic team lead by Eric Rosen.

BROTHER TOAD by Nathan Louis Jackson. Mellon Foundation Resident Playwright and Kansas City, KS resident, Nathan Louis Jackson (Sticky Traps, Broke-ology, When I Come To Die), brings us an arresting new play about two families' answers to gun violence right here on our own streets.
WELCOME TO FEAR CITY by Kara Lee Corthron. It's July 1977 and the South Bronx is HOT: from a heat wave, from this new thing that would come to be known as "hip-hop," and from an astounding number of fires burning the borough to the ground. FEAR CITY looks at a community trying to get by in the midst of crime, social apathy, poverty, and a whole new art form that's about to electrify the world.
