Donegal, Ireland, 1936; a time when life is simple but making ends meet seems impossibly hard. Meet the five unmarried Mundy sisters, in the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City, "The J's" production of Dancing at Lughnasa,, January 9-17 at the White Theatre. The sisters laugh, cry and dance together, through daily difficulties until their missionary brother returns home from decades in Africa. Frail and different after years living abroad, he challenges the sisters' relationships within the family. As they question their beliefs and place within the community, the sisters' dreams of love begin to crumble.

Told through the eyes of 7-year old Michael, Brian Friel's, Tony Award-winning play, is a magical, moving story of a rural world on the brink of revolution.

Dancing at Lughnasa is directed by Sidonie Garrett, Executive Artistic Director of the Heart of America Shakespeare Festival. Last year, she directed the collaboration project, The Merchant of Venice, presented by the J and JCCC, the first HASF indoor production. Garrett previously worked as a freelance director. Her experience took her to New York City as well as multiple venues locally. In March, she will direct The Whale at the Unicorn Theatre and in June, Twelfth Night for the Heart of America Shakespeare Festival's 24th season in the park.
