The Ensemble Theatre kicks off its 2016 -2017 Young Performers Program, Touring and Education performances, and acting classes for the school year. See photos from last season's sessions below!


The Young Performers Program, YPP, is for young people (ages 6-17) who desire to explore their creative and artistic talents. Sessions are held during winter, spring, and summer breaks on Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

2016-17 sessions are Winter Break: Dec. 19-30, 2016; Spring Break: March 13 - 17, 2017; Summer Session I: June 5 - July 1, 2017; and Summer Session II: July 5 - 29, 2017. Parents may register their children for any of the sessions now. Applications are available at The Ensemble Theatre, 3535 Main Street, and The Ensemble Theatre website: EnsembleHouston.org/programs.

The Young Performers Program offers an introductory overview of the arts through theatre, dance and music motivating youth to use theatre as a means to explore and inspire. The curriculum includes: theatre performance - exposure to acting styles and techniques, as well as, behind-the-scenes technical specialties; theatre theory - an exploration of theatre as a communication tool and the use of theatre to interpret stories for audiences; dance/ movement, - the use of dance and/ or body language in characterization; and music - develops an understanding of the different ways instrument and song are used in theatre.

The Ensemble Theatre Touring and Education Program offers an artist in residency program for 6-12 weeks of in-school artistic workshops and teacher resources; Wednesday morning matinee performances for seniors and students to attend a mainstage performance; a special off-book series designed to promote literacy using Lorraine Hansberry's A RAISIN IN THE SUN and other classic plays; and a series of family friendly children's theatre for all ages that include special workshops and activities.

Additionally, the touring and education program presents offerings from its repertoire of educationally themed plays to students, both hosting field trip groups to the theater and traveling to present on-campus performances. This season's educational shows include: WILEY AND THE HAIRY MAN, UNCLE REMUS AND BRER RABBIT, ANANSI AND THE TALKING MELON, BARBARA JORDAN, THE TOYS TAKEOVER CHRISTMAS, and THE ROSA PARKS STORY.
