TheatreZone, a professional Equity theatre in Naples, Florida, that specializes in Broadway musicals, announces its 2019-2020 season shows. They are: Home for the Holidays (Dec. 13-15, 2019); Wonderful Town (Jan. 9-19, 2020); Tonya & Nancy: A Rock Opera (Feb. 6-16, 2020); Gypsy (March 5-15, 2020); and I Love My Wife (April 16-26, 2020).

"We like to present a blend of a traditional show, a favorite from the past seasons, and a show or two that people may not have seen before," says Mark Danni, Artistic Director. "This gives our subscribers and ticket buyers variety and exposure to new things. We believe it is our job to introduce lesser known works to new audiences."

"The idea for Wonderful Town came from a conversation we had with Leonard Bernstein's daughter, Jamie Bernstein," he continues. "She said 'Wonderful Town is my favorite of my Dad's musicals and I think it would be wonderful on your stage.' "

Bringing a different musical genre to the stage, Tonya & Nancy: A Rock Opera is based on a story audiences know but in a format that may be new to them. This show is brand new and has only been presented in Boston, New York and Chicago. The producer flew to Naples to specifically meet with TheatreZone because they wanted to have the show staged in Florida and immediately thought of Mark Danni and TheatreZone.

With so many well known songs, Gypsy appeals to everyone. "This is a classic and timeless Broadway musical where audiences leave happy and singing," Danni says. "We expect that these tickets will sell quickly." Music Directing the production will be Karen (Moor) Yelaney, who was the original Baby June with Ethel Merman on Broadway. Her talented daughter, Megan Yelaney, who was last seen in TheatreZone's Baby, will play Gypsy Rose Lee. Mark Danni and Karen Yelaney had worked together in New York before Mark moved to Naples. "We are also thrilled to announce that TheatreZone fan favorite Becca McCoy, last seen as Princess Puffer in The Mystery of Edwin Drood, will portray the iconic roll of Mama Rose," Danni said.

Well received when TheatreZone staged this in Season 5, I Love My Wife is a hilarious 1970's look at relationships and sexuality. "The topic sounds racy, but the show is not," Danni says. "It's more about the comedy and how the couples get to bed than what happens when they get there. I also love that the band are characters in the show and have 9 costume changes!" The show has wonderful music written by the legendary Tony Award winning composer Cy Coleman (Sweet Charity, City of Angels).

In a change for its 15th season, all evening performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. Matinees at 2:00 p.m. will continue to be offered on Saturdays and Sundays.

International concert acts and other events will be announced at a later date.

TheatreZone is in residence at the 250-seat G&L Theatre on the Community School of Naples campus, 13275 Livingston Road, Naples.

Tickets range from $50-75. Sales to new season ticket buyers will begin on March 25, and sales of tickets for individual shows will begin on April 1.
