SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK LIVE Opens Florida Rep's Lunchbox Theatre Series, 11/16 & 17
Florida Repertory Theatre has announced that its Lunchbox Theatre Series for children and families opens this month with a zany musical adventure based on the popular 1970s cartoon series.
Schoolhouse Rock Live! plays today, Nov. 16 & 17 at 11am in the Arcade Theatre, and the low $12 admission price includes the show, an interactive workshop, and a boxed lunch from April's Pie Company.
Based on the 1970s pop-culture phenomenon that entertained a generation of American kids, Schoolhouse Rock Live! is a fun & exciting musical journey through grammar, history, geography, science and outer space! Audiences will join Tom the Schoolteacher and all your favorite Schoolhouse Rock characters for 45 jam-packed minutes of singing, dancing and learning! Kids of all ages will fall in love with these clever, catchy and classic songs – including “I'm Just a Bill,” “Interplanet Janet” and “Conjunction Junction!”
In addition to the Saturday morning performance designed to give families a day at the theatre, the Lunchbox Series features a special performance on Friday, Nov. 16 that is custom-designed as a field trip opportunity for schools, day cares and other groups interested in supplementing their arts curriculum - and tickets for today's Nov. 16th performance are going fast.
Both performances include a bagged lunch from April’s Pie Company, Florida Rep's River District neighbor, a post-show discussion with the actors and an interactive workshop led by the Edison & Ford Winter Estates' Wild Wizard.
The production features Florida Rep's acting intern company, Lindsay Clemmons, Molly Coyne, Brian Hatch and Mitchell Land. These young theatre artists are making their professional debut with Florida Rep and will spend the season working in many different capacities, but chiefly performing with The Children's Theatre Series.
Florida Rep's Associate Director, Jason Parrish, directed the production and was joined by music director Justin P. Cowan, choreographer Amy Marie McCleary (Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre), and an expert team of designers including scenic designer and the company’s asst. technical director, Drew LaMott, costume designer Roberta Malcolm, sound designer Kate Smith and props artisans Jenn Williams and Patti Snyder.
Schoolhouse Rock Live! plays in the Historic Arcade Theatre today and Saturday, Nov. 16 & 17 at 11am. Tickets are $12 and available online at www.floridarepeducation.org or through the box office at 239-332-4488.
