Outre Theatre Company Presents

Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson

at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts

Fort Lauderdale, FL - April 13, 2015 - The Outre Theatre Company, with Managing Director Sabrina Lynn Gore and Artistic Director Skye Whitcomb, announces the final show of their third season, the raucous Tony-nominated musical Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, by Alex Timbers and Michael Friedman.

Starring local favorites Bobby Johnston and Kaitlyn O'Neill, this rock musical-slash-political satire reimagines America's first populist president, casting him as a rock star, and blends historical fact and fiction to satirize our own contemporary political landscape. An unapologetic and fast-paced look at one of our country's founding rock stars, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson reinvents the life of the seventh President as he invents the Democratic Party, shoves the Native Americans west, and becomes the biggest rock star since George Washington.

"What Mr. Timbers and Mr. Friedman are examining," says the New York Times, "is a fierce emotionalism in American politics that transcends party lines and has existed for centuries. Idealism, resentment, a short attention span, a fear of perpetually being misunderstood, and a ravenous sense of entitlement are mixed together here in one big, gawky, sexually charged package: America, the eternal teenager. And who better to lead this restless, appetite-driven creature than a red-blooded rock star?"

Director Skye Whitcomb praises the show's "wildly anarchic and aggressively irreverent" spirit. "It's an absolutely hilarious satire, but sobering and thought-provoking at the same time. The problems that we have with our government and our elected officials - the hypocrisy, the anti-intellectualism, the naked greed - these aren't new things. They've been around since the beginning of the Republic. We can't return to the 'good old days,' because there aren't any 'good old days' to return to."

Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson was first presented by Outre as a concert production in the beginning of the 2013/14 season, and audience response was so tremendously positive that the company decided to give it a full production. In what has become an Outre trademark, Musical Director Kristen Long will incorporate the band into the action of the production, and the performances will continue Outre's goal of making theatergoing an immersive experience.

Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson runs May 1 through May 17, 2015, with performances at 8 pm on Fridays and Saturdays and at 2 pm on Sundays. Performances will be at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in the Abdo New River Room. Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson contains strong language, adult situations, and heavy satire, and is recommended for mature audiences. Tickets range from $20 for students to $30 for general admission, and can be purchased through the Broward Center's AutoNation Box Office by calling 954-462-0222, or online at www.browardcenter.org.
