The Williamston Theatre is thrilled to announce that the The Shubert Foundation has awarded the Williamston Theatre with a $20,000 Theatre Grant. This is the third year that the Foundation has provided support for the Williamston Theatre.

"To be considered worthy of support by such an illustrious organization is a great honor," said Executive Director John Lepard. "Arts funding continues to be challenging for companies like us to secure. So this grant is very important in supporting our overall operations."

The Shubert Foundation, Inc. is dedicated to sustaining and advancing the live performing arts in the United States, with a particular emphasis on theatre and a secondary focus on dance. The Foundation's Board of Directors believes that the most effective way to encourage the artistic process is by providing the general operating support that reinforces the structure that nurtures its development. Accordingly, The Foundation does not earmark its awards; all allocations are unrestricted. The Foundation is the nation's largest funder dedicated to unrestricted funding of not-for-profit theatres, dance companies, professional theatre training programs and related service agencies. The Shubert Foundation, Inc., established in 1945 by Lee and J.J. Shubert, in memory of their brother Sam, is the sole shareholder of The Shubert Organization, Inc. Since its founding in 1900, The Shubert Organization has produced and co-produced hundreds of plays and musicals, both in New York and in cities across the country. Currently, the company owns and operates 17 Broadway theatres, and six Off-Broadway venues.

The Williamston Theatre opened as an Equity theatre in June 2006 and has since mounted 65 fully professional productions. Currently on stage is John Murrell's comedy, Taking Shakespeare. Performances run through June 18. For more information, please visit the Theatre's website at www.williamstontheatre.org or call the box office at (517) 655-7469.
