Theatre Nova, an Ann Arbor company that focuses exclusively on new and recent plays, will premiere "Sugar Plum Panto" by The Theatre Nova Ensemble.

The Theatre Nova holiday Panto tradition continues for another year, complete with all the zany antics you've come to expect from this raucous family entertainment. When young Clara's Christmas dream goes awry, an outrageous cast of characters appears to entertain her and save her from the Mouse King. Bring the whole family for this festive holiday tradition, with local celebrities, original songs, a Bee-oo-ti-ful Panto Dame, and of course, all of the candy you can eat!

Dan Morrison, Sonja Marquis and Sarah Briggs-Stevens perform a variety of parts including characters from the Nutcracker such as Clara and the Mouse King, along with Tante Drosselmeyer, this year's iteration of the traditional Panto Dame. Featuring brand new songs by R. MacKenzie Lewis, "Kick Butt" and "Tick Tock", in addition to some classical pieces from the Nutcracker Ballet by Tchaikovsky, and reimaging of modern songs.

Packed with references to movies, pop-culture, and current events, the show is fun, and appropriate, for adults as well as kid, with sausage sword fights, plenty of dancing, and lots of (non-allergenic) candy. Every night has a special guest with last year's special guests including Mayor Chris Taylor, Eva Rosenwald, Magician Jeff Boyer, local actor Charlie Sutherland, Roots and Wings, Elsa from Frozen, and Santa Claus.

"Sugar Plum Panto" will run November 26th - December 23rd in the Yellow Barn (410 W. Huron, Ann Arbor), a downtown performance space that also hosts musicians and classes. Show times for this show are different from the rest of the season, with evening performances starting at 7:30 pm and Sunday matinee's starting at 2:00 pm with the exception of December 11th, which starts at 6:00 pm. Theatre Nova features free parking for patrons as well as quick access to the city's restaurants, bars, bakeries and coffee shops. New patrons can find it across Huron Street from Ann Arbor's YMCA, through a parking lot entrance on the north side of the street.

Theatre Nova has marked all tickets for all performances as pay-what-you-can, with a suggested donation of $20. Visit www.artful.ly/store/events/8234 to purchase tickets. Patrons can attain memberships by going to www.artful.ly/theatre-nova/store/donate. Theatre Nova is Michigan's only theater exclusively producing new plays. Its mission is to raise awareness of the value and excitement of new plays and playwrights, and provide resources for playwrights to develop their craft by importing, exporting, and developing new work. It seeks to create a sustainable theater for generations to come, built on the cornerstones of accessibility, transparency, artist-leadership, and equality. It is a nonprofit 501c(3) organization.
