Ringwald Theatre Presents FLOWERS UP HER ATTIC, Now thru 10/29

The Ringwald Theatre continues its "Season of Family" with the world premiere of Flowers Up Her Attic, a tale of ultimate family betrayal and secrets!. Local playwright Marke Sobolewski (Fu$$ the Holidays, The Real Housewives of the North Pole) has teamed up with Ringwald artistic director Joe Bailey to create a campy, hilarious, ultimately loving (and unauthorized) parody of V. C. Andrews torrid, beloved book, Flowers in the Attic.

In Flowers Up Her Attic, a young widow is forced to keep her four children locked in the attic of her sadistic mother's mansion while she tries to get her act together. Christopher and Cathy are the eldest siblings, poor little Cory and Carrie are the hapless twins. Little do the children's mother and grandmother know the extent of what happens up in that attic!

First published in 1979, Flowers in the Attic was met with immediate controversy. Although initially passed off as a true story, the facts could not be corroborated and ultimately V. C. Andrews published her book as a novel. The film rights were sold immediately and a movie (albeit watered down from the source material) was released in 1987. Flowers in the Attic was the first book in the Dollanganger Series and was followed by 4 more books.

Marke Sobolewski and Joe Bailey returned to the original novel and the subsequent film version to craft Flowers Up Her Attic.

Flowers Up Her Attic opens tonight, October 13th and plays through Monday, October 29th at 8pm on Saturday and Monday nights with 3pm Sunday matinees.

Every Sunday will be Book Club Sundays with a lively talkback after each show discussing the original book, film and this play version. Fans of the Flower won't want to miss it! Coffee and powdered donuts (natch!) will be served.

Ticket prices are $10.00 every performance. Tickets can be purchased at www.TheRingwald.com or at the theatre box office. The Ringwald box office opens 45 minutes before performances and tickets can be purchased with cash or Visa/Mastercard.

The Ringwald opened their doors five years ago on May 11, 2007 with Fatal Attraction: A Greek Tragedy. Quickly, The Ringwald became a mainstay of Detroit's theatre community. Past Productions include: Trainspotting, Shining City, The Bad Seed, Killer Joe, Bug, Mercury Fur, and Silent Night of the Lambs. The Ringwald was named 2009 and 2012 Best Theatrical Troupe by Real Detroit and Best Place to See Local Theatre in 2010, 2011 and 2012 by the readers of Metro Times.
