The Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center will present Sing-A-Long Sound of Music, for a limited engagement in the SaG?Ji Theatre on Aug. 4-7.

Let's start at the very beginning (a very good place to start) ...

Sing-A-Long Sound of Music is a screening of the classic Julie Andrews film musical in glorious, full-screen Technicolor complete with subtitles so that the whole audience can sing along. This inventive evening of entertainment has played worldwide; even filling the Hollywood Bowl - 18,000 people - three times.

"An extension of the musicals our theatre company produces, this is going to be a really fun event that will fill our theatre with the dulcet sounds of our audience singing some of Rodgers & Hammerstein's most beloved songs," said FAC Performing Arts Director Scott RC Levy.

"It's a family-friendly version of the late-night Rocky Horror Show screenings."

Songs from The Sound of Music have become standards in the American songbook, including the title song, Edelweiss, My Favorite Things, Climb Ev'ry Mountain and Do-Re-Mi.

An interesting 75th Anniversary note, The Trapp Family Singers - the von Trapps of Austria depicted in the film - performed on the stage at the FAC in the late 1930s.

The fun-filled show starts with a vocal warm-up led by the evening's host, who also takes the audience through their complimentary ‘magic moments pack', containing various props to be used at strategic points throughout the film.

There is also ‘Fancy Dress' competition in which everyone who has come in costume is invited onto the stage to show off their fantastic tailoring skills.

The Sing-A-Long phenomenon is now a worldwide success playing in many of the world's cities, including New York, L.A., San Francisco, Toronto, Sydney, Melbourne, Dublin and Oslo, Amsterdam, Stockholm and throughout the United Kingdom. Elton John held a special private screening of the movie for his birthday.

"People come because of the interaction, the chance to sing, shout things out, wave their edelweiss and dress up in a nun's outfit or as Ray, a drop of golden sun," said Levy. "I can't wait to sing-a-long with our audiences."
