Spotlight Theatre Company presents "Showtune: Celebrating the Words & Music of Jerry Herman" August 28 - September 25 at the John Hand Theater, 7653 E. 1st Place in Denver.

We are welcomed to the world of Jerry Herman, one of the Golden Age of Broadway's pre-eminent tunesmiths. Composer and lyricist for some of Broadway's greatest shows, Showtune is sure to please audiences young and old alike with witty lyrics set to iconic tunes from shows that include "Hello, Dolly!," "Mame," and "La Cage aux Folles."

Showtune is Spotlight Theatre's first foray into world of musical theatre. Director Pat Payne was honored with the 2009 Camera's Eye Theater Award for Best Direction of a Musical for the Woof! Theatre production of "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change." He has chosen Deb Curtis, Kris Graves, Melinda Catherine - Gross, Keith Hershman, Michael Nicosia and Lee Ann Scherlong to bring Jerry Herman's songs to life.

Showtune was conceived by Paul Gilger. Piano and Vocal Arrangements by James Followell with Music Direction by Lee Ann Scherlong; Accompanist Trent Hines. Choreography by Stephanie Lynn Prugh and Directed by Pat Payne.

Jerry Herman is an American composer and lyricist, known for his work in Broadway musical theater. He has been nominated for the Tony Award five times, and won twice, for "La Cage aux Folles" and "Hello, Dolly!" In 2009, Herman received the 2009 Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre.

Greg Rice Greg was born and raised in Pennsylvania, where he was a student at the Society Hill Playhouse in his senior year, and has been a Denver resident for 17 years. While in Denver he has been active with the Denver Center for the Performing Arts as a volunteer Chair and Co-Chair for the Denver Center Theater Company's African American Task Force. This organization was formed to introduce more African Americans to the theater. The organization also created the Take-A-Kid -Out program bringing more African-American students, who may not normally get to the theater, into the theater. While at the DCPA, he was also a tour docent and sat on the Chairman's Board. Keeping so busy in Denver, he finally started taking trips back to New York City to take in as much theater as possible! These trips usually last about 10 days and include 8 shows, The Tony Awards (once so far!), at least 4 slices of Ray's Pizza (The real Ray's!), at least 3 cheese steaks and a very good time in one of his favorite cities!

Greg is very happy to be reporting from Denver on Broadway World!
