One morning a young American mother finds two crimson-robed strangers-a monk and a lama-at her door. She assumes them to be friends of her Tibetan husband. But they are really on a mission to meet her 3-year-old son Tenzin, a child that is wise beyond his years. They soon reveal they believe the boy is the reincarnation of a high Buddhist teacher. When the monks request to take Tenzin away for a life of spiritual training in India, the parents are faced with a choice that will test their faith and their hearts and change their family forever. The Oldest Boy is an extraordinary new play from a one- of-a-kind playwright about walking the tightrope between loving and letting go.

This delicate comic drama weaves together music, dance, puppetry, intimate moments and infinite meanings. The result is a richly emotional journey filled with laughter and tears of joy.

The cast includes Candice Joice (Mother), Charlie Chiv (Father), Peter Trinh (Monk) and Robert Payo (Lama).

The Oldest Boy is played by DeepaLi Lindblom (Puppeteer), Kenneth Berba (Puppeteer) and Sushma Bagga (Puppet Designer/Puppeteer).

Sarah Ruhl is a fresh, compelling, and versatile American playwright. She is the recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship and the PEN/Laura Pels International Foundation for Theater Award for a distinguished American playwright in mid-career. Other plays by Sarah Ruhl include, "In the Next Room, or the vibrator play"(Broadway 2009, 2010 Pulitzer Prize Finalist), "The Clean House" (2005 Pulitzer Prize Finalist; The Susan Smith Blackburn Prize, 2004); "Passion Play, a cycle" (Pen American Award, The Fourth Freedom Forum Playwriting Award from The Kennedy Center) and "Dead Man's Cell Phone" (Helen Hayes Award for Best New Play).
