Gypsy, America's most acclaimed musical, will kick off the Fine Arts Center Theatre Company's 25th season, Sept. 27 – Oct. 21, in the SaG?Ji Theatre. Premiering on Broadway in 1959, Gypsy debuted at the end of the golden age of musical comedy, and symbolizes the beginning of true musical theatre, a new era that straddled the lines between comedy and drama. Gypsy follows the life of burlesque star Gypsy Rose Lee and is full of comedy, honest drama, and vivacious musical numbers with lyrics written by a young Stephen Sondheim.

For Sondheim, Gypsy was his second Broadway lyrical writing credit following West Side Story. For the Fine Arts Center, Gypsy marks the seventh Sondheim-penned production. The others were West Side Story, Into the Woods, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Sweeney Todd and Assassins.

"Gypsy is quite possibly the pinnacle of American musical theatre and I'm thrilled to kick off our 25th anniversary main stage season with this classic," said Scott RC Levy, the show's director and Theatre Company's Producing Artistic Director. "From the opening note of the rousing overture to the final knockout moment, this production will prove to be an excellent addition to the history of high-quality productions our audience has come to expect."
